Don't anyone ever ask me to work on their "northern" car

Jason and I are in the process of putting in the good ATX tranny I have into my 2nd rare green 94 and what a PITA. SHOSHOP sway bars froze, y pipe froze...and the list goes on as does the rust underneath it.
So I will no longer work on any northern SHOs after this :nut: ...there is going to be too much cutting/welding, broken bolts and easy outing of the remnants...
On a good note, my reinforced ATX mount will be here Wednesday...not that we will have the tranny out by then...Tara will appreciate the extensions, sockets, and ratchet we have broken so far because my air tools will not break anything free. ;)

Too many bolts to break...to little daylight hours. :bonk:

Who drives their SHO's in the winter. I live in Northern-Lower Michigan and I have a Taurus SLO for that purpose. Storage is the way to go and I only put about 5,000 miles on the SHO a year.

That's not Mike's car is it? I don't remember it being too bad, although I believe it did spend a couple months in the NE early in its life.

I know what you mean. My friend wanted me to lower his 01 S-10 for him, which should be a simple task for someone who's ever worked on a car. Well several long hours and a couple broken/stripped bolts later with absolutely no progress, I put the POS back together and told him to never ask me to touch the thing again. I'm glad I live in FL.

I didn't have too much of a problem with my '94 atx when I lived up in MI, probably because I ran it through the car was at least once a week. I think I only broke one bolt on the y-pipe. I originally bought it in TN, moved back to FL with it, then moved up to MI with it where it spent 2 winters.
Now I don't know why everything under my '89 was so frozen, but the car was originally from California so the body has zero rust. I seriously can't remember the last time I used air tools though... must be why I'm so damn buff. ;)

Rear manifold had both y pipe bolts shear right off. Y pipe had to be cut from collector, sway bars won't budge, yadda yadda yadda...we just got the damn pan off the engine to remove the torque converter bolts. I am hoping to pull the tranny tomorrow, reinstall the new one and install new bearings since the pan is down, and then burn up this tranny in a few months

Kelvin, this is not Mikes car. Its the other green 94 I picked up just east of Sanford...although his rear suspension had alot of stuck issues with bolts.

Tranny still not pulled, however we did get to put in new rod bearings tonite as well as get the sway bars finally broken free thanks to a propane torch and me sitting there forever heating the **** out of them. Exaust is shot so I may have to do something custom
Reinforced ATX front mount arrived yesterday and as soon as we remove the engine to tranny bolts and remove the subframe mount bolts, she should come out. Hopefully we can successfully do the transfer of trannies tomorrow.

Kelvin, how bad was your silver beast...its next for a makeover. Jason decided to return it to MTX form instead of ATX after this fiasco

You mean cars come without rust?
LOL my 91 is very clean...I could unbolt the gastank without breaking anything as was my 89 (which lived in FL all its life). I unbolted the airbox from this 94 and a socket fell off my ratched and literally fell through the inner fender where the airbox sits because of the rust...everything visible body wise is gorgeous though...

No tranny dropped tonite...I got rained out removing the engine to tranny bolts.

Alright tonite was the night...transmissions successfully swapped and subframe re-attached. I have to redo the exaust but first have to remove the broken studs in the rear exaust manifold, swap in a larger tranny cooler, and a few other misc things and then it is the moment of truth...hopefully Sunday is the day.

Oh yeah, good thing I got the reinforced front mount...it was toast as is the tranny mount, but that one I will reinforce myself.

Its is, but not done yet. We are drilling out the 2 broken exaust studs on the rear exaust manifold and retapping them. I need to get another negative battery cable because the one I bought was 2 inched too short. I've got to remove the remaining exaust system and weld up my custom system to my modified y pipe. I also need to buy a new battery, reinstall the starter and a few other misc things. My goal is to get the exaust done tomorrow but with everything else that has been an issue, I am not holding my breath.

It may be done...we drove it around the block and everything seems fine. New exaust is nice. I just have to replace one of the rear brake lines that leaks and she will be driveable.
