Make sure freon is "gone". I assume you will do it legal. Clean connections to get dirt out. Make the job lot easier. Next make sure to plug lines while apart. Dirt, moisture in refrigeration can create a expensive nightmare to get rid of. Maurice

no, that's not quite it.

the lines will look a little different on your 93 than on the first gen, but the concept is the same.

you need the a/c line disconnect tools. you can find by looking at autozone.com and searching for 25052. you can get them at nearly any parts store.

The SHO is not amenable to having a port cut into the heater box to r&r the heater core and avoid the AC discharge/recharge?

Ths approach has worked on other Fords I've owned.

Yeah, you can either get the plastic round ones or the metal ones that clamp on. I have both because depending on where the connection is, one type may work better than the other. They are a royal PITA to remove. You have to put the tool on there with the male end facing you (not the firewall) as that's where the spring is. Then climb on top of the motor, push the tool into the springed groove, and twist/pull with all your might all the while not damaging the evap core.

Thanks, I'll stop by my local parts store and pick it up.
As for discharging the system, the 5 series BMW took care of that when I T-Boned it.

I am harvesting the Heater box for my 95 with a bad BDA.

Also, if the connections won't come apart, spray PB Blaster in the connection where the spring lock coupling is and let it soak. Then push the tool in and move it around in there to loosen things up.

I just replaced my entire a/c system with exception of the evaporator. It wasn't exactly fun by any means. The worst part of the job was those stupid a/c quick-disconnect fittings. They weren't quick to disconnect.
