doing 60k service for first time

well i am doing my 60k service for the first time on my own along with a friend. i was wondering if someone could help me out though cause i am having some trouble. i tried to get the first valve shim out but i cant i tried a different couple times too. i was wondering if someone has any pointers or anything to help me. shrug headbang

It also might be worth sending a PM to gosho89, Kerry helped me out with mine a couple weeks ago. I think he used all the "proper" stuff, but he might have some ideas for you.

Have you got the cams positioned right? Get a socket on the crank bolt (correct me if I'm wrong here people ) and turn the sucker til the lobe for the one you're going to be worked on is pointed up. Other than that, the SHOTimes writeup is pretty informative, actually.

couple of tips:

1: make sure the tool used to hold the valve bucket down is not overlapping the shim but is on the edge.

2: I use a magnet (like the telescoping parts picker upper) to get the shims out. The pick method isnt as handy.

I don't know if you already did this, but obviously you want the tip of the cam lobe pointing up. Then spin the shim towards you so that the dimple in the bucket is facing you for when you pick the shim out.
