Does this clutch disk look like its days are almost over?

Hey guys and gals, I'm in the middle of doing my 3.0 to 3.2 conversion and I'm a little worried that my clutch disk may not last much longer, and I'm kinda on a tight budget now after ordering all of the other necessary parts.

The disk is a SPEC Stage II Kevlar disk and I'm not sure if being that the material is Kevlar if it's going to last much longer or not. I don't remember exactly how much thickness there was of material when the disk was new because I only took a quick look at it before I took it over to AAMCO. If I recall correctly there wasn't a whole lot of material on there to begin with. But I want to save myself some $$ then now would be the time to change it out instead of having to take it somewhere to pay someone $500 to do it later.

The disk doesn't have but maybe 10,000 miles on it, probably a bit less than that though. I've had that self-adjuster problem though from the beginning and never found where the problem was. The catching point just started getting higher and higher on the clutch pedal and the last few weeks of driving the car the catching point was with the pedal almost all the way released. But do you all think I can get away with just replacing the disk and maybe having the flywheel resurfaced? It's $460 for another disk/pressure plate kit from SPEC and I don't have that kind of money right now.

Anyway, based on the 3 pictures below (I tried getting the view at different angles so you can see the thickness of the material left) do you all think I can get a bit more out of this clutch, or should I go ahead and replace it now? Thanks in advance!

-Andrew

Looks to me like there's a lot of material left on there. These types of clutch disks generally don't wear very fast.

The only thing I see that might be problematic is whether the material thickness is the same along the radius. It might just be the pic or the lighting, but are the pucks thinner near the outside edge than near the hub?

Yes, that clutch disk should be fine for a good while longer. I would feel comfortable putting that back in.

Erik, it appears to be thicker in the middle and thinner on the edges to me as well.

Hey thanks for hosting those pictures for me, Sh03d. That was nice of you! And thanks for your replies too guys. So that disk doesn't look too worn?? Does anyone have pics of a similar disk but in new condition. Like I said, I remember mine looking like it lacked material when it was new, but it doesn't look to me like there's a whole lot left to my disk. I do really have a whole lot of knowledge on clutches and trannies yet though so that could be why.

I uploaded a picture that I had taken earlier today of the pressure plate fingers. I don't have a picture of the TOB but I can get one taken after Christmas. My PP fingers do show a little wear on them so maybe that will tell you guys something.... I sure don't know what they could be a result of. It may take some time again for the red X to go away and for the picture to actually show again like last time, but it WILL eventually show up so I'm sorry if you guys get the red X's. I'm too lazy to sign up for a PhotoBucket account. :bonk:

Clutch R&R

Disc looks great. Wish I had it.

Pressure Plate fingers all look even with very little wear. Go with it. I could get these two pieces to last another 80,000 miles.

Check the throw out bearing very carefully. They seem to be the weak link on these clutches. If there is any question replace that one item.

Look at the clutch linkage including any pivots, bearings, cranks and cables, Replace anything that is not in good or excellent shape.

Someone on the board posted an over the counter part number for new clutch cables. They were cheap and now would be a good time. Do a search for the post.
