My ’95 daily driver will be turning 200,000 miles this week, still on the original struts & springs.
I obviously need to replace the shocks, mounts, bushings, etc…, but do the springs wear out or break?

I’m not against buying new springs and tightening it up a bit, but as this car spends it’s time on the San Diego Freeway and will never see a track, too sporty/stiff/low would be a mistake.

Is it OK to keep the original springs, or is it wiser to replace them?

If you want stock, buy moog cargo coils. If you want performance buy Intrax, Eibach (discontinued), etc

I would definitely buy new springs if I were you, even if yours are free of rust and visually look fine. They are most likely shot way beyond original specs.

Thanks for the input, guys.
New coils it is.
Off to the “Performance Upgrades” section of this forum to figure the best setup for a good tight ride, without rattling my teeth out.

I installed Bilstein sport/GTI springs on my '80 VW Scirocco years ago.
Best thing I ever did. It handled like a go-cart and rode smooth.
If I could achieve that again, I would be stoked.

If you are replacing struts anyways, I would go with the Monroe quick struts, as they include springs, and all of the hardware will be new as well (bellows, bumpers, mounts, etc).
