I decided to make a Low-buck leak checker today and thought I'd share it since it worked so well.

I got a PVC pipe cap with a ~3" OD and drilled a hole in it so to fit a automotive tire valve stem. greased up a stem and pulled it through. cinched it down where the MAF connects. sealed off where the TB is and added pressure till I heard "PSSSSS", worked well and I found three big leaks.

i should probably check mine for boost leaks, but there isn't that many places for it to leak. I did have one big leak when i blew my intercooler pipe into the ditch because i forgot to tighten the clamps. it was like hearing the loudest BOV ever.

edit: your running 10psi right? we should be a damn good race!

there is 10 PSI in the intake according to a non-calibrated corner-store autometer boost gauge. My tranny shifts kinda slow, might not be a match for any FPS goodness.

yikes. double check all hose connections, they look tight but may not seal, as this tool help me find out. do you have stock internals, pistons, cams, etc.?

It's not exactly a new idea, but it's one of which every turbo car owner should be aware. BTW, quick connect fittings are the way to go:

Could you find vaccum leaks on a non F/I car with this???

that would be tricky, I would think that atleast one cylinder would have the intake valves open, then your leak checking the intake and atleast one set of the piston rings.

this is the question, EBAY...OR...SCRAP?

pipe007.jpg

there is 16 feet of pipe between the air filter and inlet port on the cylinder head. with at least the equivalent of 15x 90 degree bends. then I'll mention the 22 joints that could, can and do leak.

I think an tiny upgrade is in order, to put me further along toward my power goal, but what to do with all this stuff ?!?!

O.K. I give ... how does this work? Wouldn't you just hear the air escaping into the open intake valves?
