So as the title says, ive had trobles shifting at higher RPMs since the clutch/tranny install. Bizzy Rebuilt my tranny and it has a new 3rd gear syncro and some used (but great shape) blocking rings to replace the fiber ones in the 89' Tranny... I properly broke the clutch in and topped the tranny off with 3 qts of mobil 1 synthetic tranny juice. the car shifts like butter below 5.5k id say, but once you give her some throttle or let it higher than 5.5k, i have to wait for the RPMs to drop to shift it into 2nd or third... ive been very careful with this, cuz i dont want to grind off all my syncros... but what should i do?

I did a search and it sounds like its time to switch to synchromesh or some other brand does this sound right? what else can i do or check before droppin $30 at the GM dealer?

GM Synchromesh is NOT what you need, that is used by people trying to hide their problem and make up for the worn tranmission parts...yours are good.

Sounds like you need to adjust the clutch cable.

I dunno what you got but Ive heard that reinforced motor mounts help the high rpm shifting because the engine dosent move when you let off the throttle to shift.

Nah, GM Synchromesh is just a superior transmission fluid.

Maybe in other transmissions that call for it, but that fluid is too thick to be running in the SHO with the already poorly lubed differential. If you're going to use that, you might as well use gear oil...

thats what i thought... i didnt think synchromesh would help, because i know it has terafin wax in it and that just doesnt sound good to me... ive also got a poured urethane front motor mount... so its new and pretty solid...

EDIT: how do i adjust the cable? is it where you push it down and then pull up on the pedal, because that does nothing, only when i first re-installed everything did it click...

I DISAGREE. What's your basis for this? The MTX4 can be very tempremental depending on which fluid you use in it. There all different. Yse the fluid that gives YOU the best results.

Red Line
Amsoil
Poyal Purple
GM Syncromax
regular cheap ATF
etc...

I'm not talking about how it works for shifting, I'm saying it's too thick and decreasing the amount of **** for the differential. No **** in the differential equals...boom.

i think that the problem lies in the clutch/or adjustments need to be made.

What type of clutch is in there now? kinda sounds as if you broke/bent a strap. that is if its a stock clutch....

spec stage II clutch and PP

about a week ago i took the starter out and checked the seating of the PP to the flywheel and it was still good with no bolts missing or that seemed to have backed out... Im leaning twards clutch cable as well, because if i take my time with higher throttle shifts they go a little better and when im taking my time its VERY smooth as far as between the gears... now i know how to shift and it should be entering the gate, but it just wont if i try to shift quick (and im not doing it so fast as to damage the tranny either, or drive out of control.... its just a faster shift...)

also... could it be an internal rod shifter problem?
