I Have had Koni's on two other competition cars and definitely want to go with them for upgrading the SHO.
Question; I've heard that some Koni installs on SHO's were a problem; I also see where Shonut offers short and long tube Koni's; what year SHO are the best donor strut housings from, that is, if there a difference in the housings. I have Monroe Gas adjust struts on now (stiffer than the sensatracks, but gas struts are nothing like Koni's......) and unless someone out there knows for sure, guess I won't know about fitment problems with these housings until removing a strut. IF for some reason there are any fitment compatibility isses with Konis and the Monroe housings, I'd like to locate a set of donor struts from someone who upgraded to new ones and wants to get rid of them.

Search for posts by Eric(SHOAZ). He has a great picture of what the newer, 93-95 short housings look like. I believe the thread was started by Jose(rktmn??)

You can maybe look at those pics and see how they compare to your Monroes.

measure from the middle of the strut pinch bolt. It should be either 2.5 inches or 4 inches to the bottom of the strut housing. if it's 2.5 inch, get the short tube koni's and if it's 4 inches, get the long tube koni's. I've heard from a few people that they will interchange between the years but I have not got mine in yet. I have the short tube koni's and came stock with long tube struts. I've seen a few later models with longer housings and shorter housings so I don't anticipate a problem with the interchange. I went to the junkyard for the short tube donor housings.

So either housings can be used and you just have to order the short or long tube Koni's to match it ? I'll look for the post with photo's and measure up the Monroe's

Yup, that's pretty much it. Match the inserts to whatever struts you have.

IMHO there's a significant advantage to the short struts when trying to get them mounted/dismounted. The longer struts just make it harder to get the knuckle off when working against the rest of the suspension. It's a much easier job with the short struts.

Other than that, and a slight additional weight penalty for the long ones, they're functionally equivalent.

Agreed! I don't even want to start taking my long tubes out to install my new short tubes. They are already to go with new springs, mounts and the koni's installed in the housings. But until recently the SHO was my only car.

I was thinking this last night and another question came into my mind about this.
So would that be considered unsprung weight or sprung weight? :nut: It's under the springs yet moves with them.......

Gary M has said that the long tubes are the better of the 2 version to have if you have the choice because of the extra travel. I went with the long tubes for that reason. I wish there was a way to get more travel up front.
