Hello all,
Im new to the SHO and would like some info. What are the differences between the 2010-2015 SHO? I seem to nice parts and tuners fit either the 2010-2012 or 2013-on. Is there a mechanical or just a software difference here?

I am already aware of the grill and option of 20" wheels.

Any information is appreciated.

thank you

I don't know about engine changes but possibly the best change on the 2013+ models is the brakes. Big improvement. The 2013+ models have better insulation around the wheel wells so road noise is reduced. The later models use MyFord Touch user interface which some might say was a step backward. Once it has the latest software updates, it works fine, however. None of this has anything to do with tuning differences but they are notable changes.

Thanks much for the info. Do you know why there are separate tunes for the 2010-2012 and 2013-present?

I'm eyeballing a 2013 near me but trying to get more info so I can make a more informed decision.

Many changes between the model years.

1st, the GEN4 is predominantly the 2010-2012 model years.

From what I understand, there were "enough" changes in the 2013 model year, extending to it's current model year offering, to justify it being labeled "GEN5". Now if the SHO elders (term used loosely) still monitor this forum, then correct me if I am wrong.

Now, with that said, and NO, this list not all inclusive, but its the best my memory serves on immediate recall, the below listed features, are the changes between GEN4 and GEN5......

Front bumper, hood, upper lower grilles and head assemblies were all/each changed.

Rear trunklid, rear tail lights, and rear spoiler, all changed.

Faux side vents, and small triangular pieces on the 'C' pillar, all changed.

Brakes incorporated massive changes (both rotors, calipers, pads, etc.). Brake booster and Master cylinder changed.

Suspension changed.

Wheel offerings changed.

Exhaust now dual tipped on all trim levels.

ECM changed (FMC was trying to make tuning more difficult/challenging).

I think the 2013's and up introduced Torque Vectoring.

PP equipped packages now included all the auxiliary coolers as found on the P.I. variants.

PTU now has drain plain plug on the housing. Now also water cooled (on PP equipped models).

Ummm......what else?

Better insulation for sound dampening throughout. Most visible on front strut towers.

Redesigned valve covers and oil separator on rear.

Entirely different instrument panel / gauges.

Seating upgrades to include SHO embroidery on vertical part about 3/4 way up from horizontal seat portion.

Goodness. Starting to draw blanks.

Oh yea, gear selector/shift **** changed.

Anyone else care to help the OP by adding to this list of mine?

So my 2014 PP has a drain plug on the PTU? I'm actually getting a brand new PTU and some minor work done to my car as I write this so no worries about servicing my PTU for a while now - but future reference I would like to confirm if there is a drain plug? I thought there wasn't so it was a nightmare to change the lubricant.

Thanks for all the info.
Separate question, do the ventilated seats come standard on the sho?

As to refering to generations. 2010 to 2012 are Gen 4 SHO's and 2013 to current model are know as Gen 5s.
Is this a generally accepted idea by nearly everyone or just from SHO owners? I've never heard it before outside of SHO forums. I also don't really consider 2010-2012 one generation and 2013-present another generation. For most people vehicle generations are when there is a major visual complete body style update. Look at a 2012 and a 2013, they basically look the same with a minor facelift. They carry the same body lines and profile.

Yes in for the SHO community it is. I see what you are saying, and to go by your example look at a Gen 1 and a Gen 2. There are differences between them, but also common between the two, just as in the Gen 4 to Gen 5 cars.

The various "GEN's" was one of the 1st, and very most heavily taught lessons pounded into my head when I came into the SHO scene back in 2010.

It is very much the nomenclature within the SHO community.

Since the 2010+ SHO is a new platform, I am sticking with the new designation. Gen 4.1 for 2010-12 and 4.2 for 2013+. LOL :nut:

Power Transfer Unit. This controls amount of energy sent to all the wheels.

I very much dislike this description. The p.t.u does nothing to control torque to any wheels. It' a 90 degree transfercase that is spliced to the front carrier in the transmission. The right front half shafts passes through the you and is spliced to the spider/side gears. If the car is moving the p.t.u. should be too. The active torque coupling clutch that is part of the rear differential is what determining how much torque is sent to the rear wheels.

If the p.t.u. fails you may still have a f.w.d. car.
