Many did not. My 95 had no sub, nor does my dad's 94, both MTX's. If it is a low option MTX, chances are no sub, if it is an auto, almost always has a sub (and a moonroof and keyless and full leather and dual power seats).

Yes, it's factory. My '95 has only the ATX for the option. No JBL, moonroof, keyless entry(keypad on driver's door), or power passenger seat.

same here, except no CD.

I thought that the JBL was standard, but no. IMO the regular "premium sound" speakers sound like total crap.

No sunroof, no full leather, no passenger power seat, and no keyless entry. Your basic lightweight ATX.

Aye. My '94 MTX does not have JBL either. No sub, and some cheapass stock speakers :)
No power pass. seat, no sunroof, no keyless entry, no leather.
Lightweight is right! Hehe not that it is a bad thing.
When Best Buy installed my Sony CD player, they said they by-passed the "premium sound". Wonder if that means I can remove the stock amps for a few pounds of weight savings? :)

If you installed an aftermarket receiver, then you would have had to bypass the factory premium sound amplifier. (Best Buy would have pulled an amplifier bypass harness off the shelf and used it to connect the two cables that connect to the factory amp.) If you're interested in good sound from your new receiver, it may be worth your while to run new speaker wiring, as the cabling running from the receiver to the amp was designed for low-level signals--not the speaker level signals you're using them for.

If you're interested in upgrading the sound without spending too much money or changing the OEM appearance, here's what I recommend:

Replacing the amplifier--this is the weakest part of the system, rated at about 7W RMS per channel. Cut the standard amplifier bypass harness in half, using one half for the line side amplifier connections and the other for the speaker connections. This way, you haven't detroyed any of the factory wiring. (I bought a 75RMSx4ch amp from Crutchfield--ask for the harness and you can get it for free.)

Replacing the back speakers--a good set of 3-way 6x8 Pioneer speakers can be had for less than $100.

Replacing the front speakers--I haven't found exactly what I want here yet, but these aren't a very high priority.

Use the information on shotimes.com to connect to the back of the factory radio--a set of female DSUB contacts from Radio Shack will make the connections to the pins on the receiver, and I bought a 3.5mm headphone jack and wired it so that I can plug in a CD/MP3 player, laptop, or whatever. If you do it right, plugging a cable into the jack will switch the sound source.

Hopefully there's something useful somewhere in this long post.

My 94 ATX has dual power seats, tape and CD, sun roof, leather and the factory JBL sub in the rear deck.

My 93 MTX had just a tape player, no factory sub, cloth seats, no sun roof, and driver only power seat.

Wish I had the MTX in my 94 frown

call me simple, but I think the premium speakers in my 93 sound just fine. I bypassed the factory amp and installed an alpine 7892 and am very happy.

If I'm bumping things I'll have it up to about 20 listening to CD's. I'll listen to the radio at around 25-30. I don't usually go above that. I also have a box in the back with 2 polk 12's and a 300 x 1 alpine amp @ 4ohms.

I have all the options except the cd player...really dont need it cause I have installed an in-dash cd player...panosonic.

As far as bypassing amps and rewiring....it is much easier than that if you have the JBL audio system....there is a second wiring harness in the dash where the radio sits. The sound system is double-wired (you can tell by looking at a speaker in the trunk. If there are 4 wires going into it, 2 positives and 2 negatives, it is double wired.). Grab the second wiring harness...which goes straight to the speakers...and your done. My amps are in my basement at home...adn the wiring harnesses are hidden under the carpet.

Wait a minute. You're telling me there's another set of wires to each speaker the come from their own existing harness, that's not used from the factory?

Cool.

I have a 93 atx with JBL,keyless and full leather, but it came without a CD, Sub, moonroof, power passenger seat.I put in a new CD/reciver in,6x9's in the rear deck, but I still have the factory amp and factory front speakers.I am thinking of putting tweeters up front like the Gen III Sho's have because the back speakers are over powering the weak door speakers!!!I have four stock wire's going into the new 6x9's but I would like to get rid of that crappy amp!!

About any car audio place can bypass the premium sound amp as CC did to mine - leaves deck power and factory speakers - My '93 ATX - No moonroof, keyless entry, JBL or power pass seat - but I do have FULL black leather - looks like you could ad or delete any option you wanted on these cars.
