Hey everyone, i'm new to the site and reading a lot of pretty helpful information for the 2011 SHO i just bought. I was curious if there is anyone in the DFW area that has done work on their SHO and if so where? The only real aftermarket place i found around here was COBB in Dallas. I don't want to do too much to it, just a few mods i'm looking at: Adjustable Coilovers, FMIC, Exhaust, Boost controller (hopefully electronic but haven't found any for the SHO yet) some guages, wheels and tires and some light appearance mods. I hear that a lot of the mods that are to be done to the car have to be researched carefully as the computer plays a HUGE roll in its performance. Any other help would be much appreciated and good to meet everyone.

JMS BoostMAX is the controller I usually hear about, but there are others. Ultimately, a tune is the best option, to be frank.

Hopefully 2011taurussel will chime in as he is out your way, and has likely figured out the scene by now.

Welcome btw to the forum, and looks like you snagged a candyred SHO? post some pics of your ride!

ya i got a candy red, its a twin of the one in the avatar, same wheels, same color, completely stock. I just have some fun things i would like to do to it to make it "my own" i see you say a "tune" is ultimately the way to go, but cant you get it tuned for low and high boost availability? I did that in my 240sx, i had low tune at 8psi an then high tune at 14psi. all it was, was basically a high end tune with low PSI ability, daily driving etc. then all i had to do was press a button and fun time ensued. Thanks for the heads up though, i'll take a look at 2011taurussel and see what says.

I don't know how it worked on the 240sx *aftermarket turbo?, but I would believe the way the EB platform works is very different, with a lot of controls and limiters. You can scale it to some extent, and the PCM SHOULD keep any damage contained, but there is a lot of "play" in the system because the stock tune tends to be conservative. fuel enrichment on stock tune and boost as well. Since there are so many parameters that can be controlled with a tune, tuners can actually improve the PCM programming, and keep it a refined machine that seems staid until you step into it.

I did some aftermarket Wheels and Goodyear tires.....Thanks Greg. My tune was the LMS Stage 1 which I did a self install but I did use and highly recommend Cobb Tuning in Plano. They didn't do any mechanicals but they did a PRE/Post Tune DYNO pull. $99 for three pulls do I got a baseline at wheel Horse Power rating. 266 to 322. Also after the tune and pull I took it to Texas Motorplex in Ennis for some 1/4 mile times. Open track night during March and April before it started getting too hot. Best time was 13.2/104MPH. Open track so as many laps as driver or vehicle can handle for $15 Welcome to the area.

Next step one of these mornings is to find a Cars and Coffee.

Shodded the turbo on my 240 Was aftermarket disco potatoe, but same t28 ******, just a longer stronger spool, ball bearing upgrade helps for the lower rpm boost take over.

2011taurussel, is Cobb in Plano the only place? Im in weatherford so I was looking for something closer, if not looks like I'm in for a road trip. What's the LMS cost? Is it laptop mandated or a different machine programmable? And you got a low 13 second 1/4 Mile on an SEL? No boost? They still have awd? I'm new to the taurus scene and basically relearning it all over again, all the tuner shit I did was back in 2003-2009 when I was in the Navy. So it's been a bit, just figure I'd be getting back into the boosted scene.

Yes Plano they work with E/B but not overly familiar with Taurus E/B Engines, mainly Focus and Fusion. The DYNO is fairly generic. LMS Tune is self paced and fairly easy but pay attention to detail. What did you do in the Navy? I was aviation myself many moons ago. The 13 sec 1/4 was a POST TUNE SHO I joined the forum with SEL but upgraded but didn't change my call sign. COBB is the one I recommend, first one didn't do Taurus, 2nd one conveniently tuner went down. COBB was a winner.

Spent the first 3-1/2 years on flight deck of the carrier (CVN70) then went air traffic controller for the other 4-1/2. Did 2 tours 1 was on ground, was fun. So Cobb tune a SHO, and what's safe boost level for the SHO, I was gonna do 12. What's the price cost for a boost upgrade and tune? I don't wanna go too high on a basic setup, then again boosted is never basic. Can they adjust boost PSI too or is that something I'd have to buy and do, from what I've read it's better to do it at a place that tunes also just not wanting to make things a mess either, still need decent PSI and mpg. By the way, what's the awd ratio? 70-30 to 50-50 or is it 50-50 all time?

I was the first "Last Cruise" of the Enterprise in 1990 with Airwing. I also did the Maiden Westpac of the Lincoln during Desert Storm. AO (Red Shirt) What were you on flight deck, plane captain, fuels, Crash/Salvage, Yellow Shirt/ Arresting gear, Cats, etc...? The Vinson was our pier mate at Alameda.

Let me Clarify... COBB DID NOT Touch the tune. The only involvement with COBB was the DYNO RUN both PRE and POST Tune. I did the LMS Tune V10 so what ever their programming was. I did the pre tune DYNO pull then the tune Then the POST tune DYNO

I was a blue shirt, chalks and chains, then went elevator operator, then tractors, the yellow shirt, the crash and salvage before I left, but I was undesignated on the flight deck.

So you did your own tune? In still unsure as to how it was tuned, I get it was the LMS v10, but did you personally do it or did someone else? If you did it, do you have a computer program available to do it? Where do I buy one? All that good info. Also, I found a place by me that does tuning and aftermarket parts, since this motor is nothing like my old sr20, I'm assuming there's more hoses, vacuum lines etc and the time between now and me last working on a car I don't think I'd trust myself yet. If I got all the parts bought and custom fitted, would you enjoy a day in weatherford doing an install with me? You're more current than I am. Also, I know the car comes with wastegates, I don't want a bov but some waste gates make the same sound and have better pressure release, do you know anything about that? What mm is the stock waste gate, do the k03/04 turbos and an aftermarket waste gate even make sense with automatic? How do I up the boost, questions like that. We should talk in voice sometime, beats the he'll out of texting and typing.

I missed Yellow shirt by literally four days. When I shipped I had two choices...AO I was in the hotel about six hours later shipped the next day. If I took Yellow Shirt (ABH) I would have one more weekend as a civilian.

I did the tune myself, LMS sends everything you need, you get the tuner, CAI, plugs, thermostat. After you receive the tuner, you pull the software version from the ECU via the OBD port. They send you the correct tuning files, then you upload to the ECU VIA the tuner and OBD port and bada bing bada boom....your done. The LMS version is kind of pricey but you get a lot better performance. Fuel mileage doesn't increase significantly per say but with more complete and efficient combustion of fuel that helps with economy and performance. I picked up mid-high 20's Highway during the Fort Worth-Carlisle, PA for Ford Nationals last year. One tank I probably would have gotten over 500 miles on a tank but lost the stream when I had to depart I-70 for rural two lane non controlled roads.

I can help you sometime especially since it is getting cooler. Be Ready for your wallet but my kit for the Tuner, CAI, Plugs, Thermostat, 4 bar MAP sensor and shipping was just South of $1100 but I used my PAYPAL account so six months same as cash. COBB recommends a fresh Oil Change prior to tune....if it is a mid cycle OLF then Synthetic Blend should work. Just go back to Full Synthetic after the POST tune DYNO. If all items are available then plan probably 2-4 hours.

Alright, thanks that makes more sense, how do you up the boost in these? Is it via the tune only or can you do it via ecu or do you have to have a manual boost controller? The only thing that makes me nervous about having all the intercooler piping is not having the right stuff, looks like most of it would have to be done custom because some of the gaps are really small, that is, unless we could run under the front portion of the support, I've seen a few but I'm guessing they are custom done. Can't find any that are actually for our car anywhere. Again though, what is the stock mm on our waste gate? Since it is twin turbo you could run 2 50mm, but then I'm guessing I'd need more of a stage 2 tune rather than stage 1 when you're talking about upgraded boost and excessive pressure release.

A little late to the game but.... I'm out in Aledo. Hit me up. I'm running a 2015 PP SHO. Would be nice to see another around here.
