What device is needed to read the fault codes from the EEC? tool

Where can you buy it?

Are there alternative brands/types - i.e. ecpensive ones and "less expensive" (cheap!) ones that will get you by. :D

Are there any directions of forum topics that will cover how to use it and where to plug it in!!??

For any thing prior to 1996, a paper clip works. Costs about a buck for a box of em...

Scott has posted links many times on the test procedures (at least every couple days).

The cheap ones are not superior to the paperclip and dash light. Anything that is superior to this method is over one hundred dollars and may not include the specific engine diagnostic software that could increase the cost by another $40-60.

By the way EEC-IV section of http://www.dalidesign.com

Take some advice here. For the longest time, I have had some hesitation for whatever reason over performing the EEC testing using the paperclip. Don't ask me why, I don't know. Well I did it today for teh first time, and it truly is VERY, VERY SIMPLE.

The only thing that you may have a problems with is getting the codes right. I did, so I checked them a few times to make sure. Now I know them for sure!!!!
I will always carry a paperclip in the useless '92 console compartment from now on, well I guess it's not so useless anymore... thumbs_u

I did a search on "paper clip" and read through all the messages, but there were no instructions on how to use the paper clip. I gather you insert both ends into the eec module, but what terminal corresponds to what test/code?

Any instructions on hooking the "paper clip with spade plugs" up?

Sorry for the ignorance, but I'm new at this have never even accessed the eec test module in the engine compartment.

I wish I had a pic to illustrate but I think I saw one on here once. Usually SHOZ123 or Olympic have the good diagrams. Try shooting them PM from here and see if they can hook you up. Did you look at the dali design site? It may be on there.

If you had indeed read through all the messages, you should have no doubt (including the link in this very thread) seen the link to http://www.dalidesign.com/hbook/eectest.html which has diagrams detailing the procedure, like this:
