i know the computer compensates timing for stock SHO's. have any sho's with LPM's ever experieced detonation? boosted or otherwise. i'm just curious, i think the central spark plug location helps fight detonation a great deal, becasue it promotes a fast burn. do we have indestructable motors? that is, apart from the obvious.

thanks, please post your opinion.

If the knock sensor fails, you can definitely create a situation with engine destroying detonation. It doesn't even take a chip to do that, but a chip can certainly make it worse with more aggressive spark and fuel curves.

thanks for the reply. doesn't the computer advance the timing untill weak detonation and then set the spark map? without the knock sensor would it not advance the timing alot and keep going well past when it should stop, just becasue it was programed to listen to a Knock sensor.

The computer follows the spark curve in the appropriate spark table for the current engine operating conditions (there is more than one). If there is detonation, the computer removes spark incrementally until it ceases. If you hear detonation, either the knock sensor is inoperative or unplugged (unlikely), or the computer has removed all the spark it is allowed to, and this was not enough to remedy the condition.

i was not really all that concerned with how the computer works. i was thinking that the pentaroof, high effecency combustion chamber could handle more cylinder presure the a regular, side plug, two vavle combustion chamber. or atleast the same presure with less chance detonation. meaning more advanced timing and less negitive torque. i was getting at how far can a person go with inceraseing presure before CR has to be lessened. i really would like to hear what a 12# vortecher has to say.

in the new hot rod they fetured a honda with 11.2:1 compresion and 25#'s of unintercooled boost. a little over the top but it looks cool as ****!
