On the plus side the car tracked perfectly when I stood on the brakes, turned on the hazard lights and started honking the horn. Big deer, no airbag deployment as he was taller than the bumper.

That sucks. Deer population is a real problem just about anywhere. Glad nobody was hurt. Now you gotta get her fixed.

Damn, that sucks. I hit a deer a year or two ago that did VERY similar damage. I hit her and she crumpled the hood, grill, and the bumper cover (didn't touch the fenders or windshield). That was the only damage I could see from the outside without opening the hood because I was afraid it wouldn't close again. Turned out that she cracked the CAC, AC condenser, and also the inside of both headlight housings along with some of the various radiator supports and components. When all was said and done, it was almost $8k for the repair (covered by insurance). I was surprised at the cost based on what looked like minor damage.

Insurance considers it the deer's fault, deductible is $100. One headlight, hood and front, neither of the fenders look damaged. Radiator was leaking though so I'm sure there is some damage to the pieces behind the grill. Thankfully the wife is an insurance professional and is handling all of that, even had the shop picked out to do the work.

Shop has the front apart and the adjuster was supposed to go by sometime today. The shop says "she took a hit" when discussing with my wife, she has a relationship with the shop due to her being in the Insurance industry but also from work done on her car. I'm thinking this means it might be on the upper end of what we were thinking.

I know the feeling and the cost adds up quick. I thought mine would be pretty cheap from seeing damage on the outside but it was WAY higher than anticipated originally. I'm interested to see what the estimate comes back.

$7,500 and change is the estimate, so not quite as high as I had feared, my portion is $100. I had guessed between $5-8K originally.

But they did extend the rental till the 15'th... Not happy driving this crappy base model Dodge Journey, freaking thing doesn't even have bluetooth...

Talked to the shop today, hood is on backorder but everthing else is done except the paint, waiting on the hood to do the paint. It is still scheduled to be done on the 15'th they said.

Hood came in, car was painted. Would have been ready Friday except when they were doing diagnostic tests the airbag system failed. They ordered more parts, I'm now over a month since this incident happened. They have said it should be ready this week... And the deer Saga continues.

Picked up the car yesterday morning. With one exception it's perfect, the hood isn't quite right, needs to be adjusted as it isn't lined up properly, a tad high at the drivers side corner at the windshield and the gap alignment could certainly be better all around the hood. The paint is beautiful and it drives great.

I hope it is a simple fix, maybe a shaved insulator or a repositioned bolt.

Looking at it closer both sides of the hood are a tad high at the back but the drivers side is enough higher that it is more noticeable. It should be an easy adjustment for them. I was worried the hood might be bent/warped as it was a used hood off a 2013 but it looks perfect.

Well the Radar system died Saturday during a 2 hour drive to my in-laws... The first time I was able to pull off the highway and restart the car and it came back but 20 minutes later it died for good. The car even yells at me when I start it that the collision detection system is unavailable. I can't even use the cruise control with the adaptive cruise turned off.

Back to the shop it goes, probably tomorrow.
