I looked on SHOTIMES.COM and I saw the decarbon procedure. What exactly is vacuum hose and where can you get it. Also what is the best cleaner to use. On shotimes.com the guy who wrote the article said he used "ford carb cleaner and engine tuneup". What is the best cleaner to get at a local auto parts store if I can't find the ford stuff. Also, is the canister purge port the hose that comes off the top of the throttle body and travels under the coil pack.

Thanks for any help.

Go to wal-mart and buy a can of B-12 Berryman, best stuff on earth, runs about $3 a can. If you look at the pic you see the hose going into the intake on the lower left side next to the throtle body, that is where you hook up the vac hose.

If you really want to clean your intake, you need to pull it off, plan on about 5 hours with a tooth brush and it will shine like nothing you have seen before wink

Just to clarify, take a look at this picture and tell me which hose is the correct hose to remove for the decarbon procedure. The hoses in the picture are numbered 1-4. If you cant see the numbers, the top hose is one, the left hose is three, the bottom hose is four and the right hose is two. If you cant just click on the link then cut and paste it into your address bar. Thanks

Sorry, but if you click on the link it might give you an error. All you have to do is click on the link and then add an L? at the very end of the address. It should work then. You can see in my previous post that the L? didn't make it into the highlighted area. I don't know why. Thanks

I think the decarbon procedure is for the insides of the combustion chamber if I'm not mistaken. For that I would think that the ford stuff might bee the best solution, I looked down into my combustion camber today while replacing my plugs and putting a new intake manifold gasket on. I would stand to gainsomething from the decarbon proceedure I'm sure, but I can't tell how really bad it is in there.

Your best bet to make a huge difference is to pull your intake off, and clean all the years of crap outta it. I did this 2 days ago, and in the process I noticed that my gaskets were kinda shot for whatever reason. well off the intake came today and 2 new gaskets went in. I spent about 3 hours cleaning the mating surfaces of all the dirt and bits of gasket. You have to work slow around the intake ports so you don't drop stuff down inside them. with the new gaskets in place I really got to see how much room there is for me to port the heads in the future. I'm betting that I'll get 5-10% more/better airflow. Anyhow back to the task.

I highly reccomend taking the intake off and cleaning the crap out. I used 6 cans of Berryman's B12, and they are spotless. I would say that you might want to start the car for about 2 min before you pull the intake off just so a little heat might make the gasket a little pliable. Mine cracked and stuck I think cause it was 30 degrees outside or so. If you do take the intake off, make sure you clean the head too, a toothbrush with some B12 sprayed on it works nice. Also don't let tooooo much b12 get into the combustion chamber. I did and it was a pain to get the car to start and then it ran like crap. after a few min it got much better. With a new gasket and all sorts of clean inside I have to believe it was worth the time and little frustration.

If you end up doing the "decarbon proceedure" let me know. I'd be interested to hear how it goes.

I believe that you want the vac line you have labeled as #1 if you follow that line down it goes to the canister thing for your gas vapors of some shit, looks like a globe down behind the PS cooler. My line was really stuck on there and I had to cut it off. I will be replacing it soon with some silicone line as they don't leave ya much slack.

#2 is some kind of like valve cover vent or something, #3 appears to be one of the lines to the secondaries, and #4 well I can tell what the **** it is but I don't think I hooked a line up there on my intake just a little while ago oh_my hmmm I better go check. edit: oh #4 is a sparkplug wire by the looks of it.

For cleaning out my intake manfold and the head intake ports I used about 18 cans eek! of Berryman's B12. For the decarbon procedure, I actually did it three times on two different days. The first day I used a pourable, non-aerosol can of B12. The next time I got a can of Seafoam, carbon cleaner formula (read the can carefully the carbon cleaner will be highlighted versus the general purpose stuff. They might be out of the carbon cleaner) from NAPA. I used another can of B12 then the Seafoam.

I have no idea which is better but they are completely different solvents, the B12 and the seafoam. It would be cheap and easy enough to get a can of each and give both a go under the idea that what one can doesn't clean out the other will.

18 cans of b12 that has to be some kind of record right? Damn I suppose mine wasn't that dirty if all I needed was 6 cans.
