I just put in an aftermarket head unit, and therefore have no use for the dashboard radio controls.

Is it possible to use these buttons as switches to operate other devices (perhaps with additional relays)?

When replacing my radio, I noticed that the wire coming from the dash buttons appears to be a single conductor, which says to me that the buttons use some kind of serial communication (pulses), which would be difficult to utilize for another switching application.

Any thoughts?

with an adapter from crutchfield you could interface them w/ your new head-unit if you really wanted to.

im sure you could use them as switches since like any other switch they close a circuit when you push the button

edit: just read in your post that the buttons have only one wire?> hmm that may be more difficult

Thanks! I'll give that a try.

If I can get it to work, I'll use one of them to activate the power antenna.
