I'm looking to buy a white '93 ATX. The problem is when the wheel is turned to the left or right there's a ticking coming from the general area of the CV joint/strut mount. Looking down the forum I see people having a similar problem with the cause being a destroyed CV joint, but the thing is, there arent any holes in the CV boot and there is no play in the wheel/axle when its on jacks. The guy selling the car said it's the strut bushing. Any thoughts?

Are you talking abput the noise happening while the car is moving? Is the frequency of the clicks proportional to the speed of the car? If so, it is probably the CV joints. The boot may have been damaged and replaced without checking the CV joints.

If the noise happens while the wheel is being turned while the car is stopped,it cannot be the CV joints and it is possibly the rubber upper spring pad rubbing against the inside of the strut tower or a worn upper strut bearing (slim chance of that last one).

It is really only noticable at slow speeds and when the steering wheel is turned. When slowly taking off from a dead stop and the steering wheel isnt turned, you cant hear anything.

Those symptoms would tend to indicate the CV joints are worn and need to be inspected and replaced if necessary.
