The driver side boot on my 89 is heavily damaged and most of the grease has been thrown out. Appears to work fine but has 160 K on it.

I'm replacing the non ABS axle with a lifetime rebuilt one. Thanks SHO Phoenix Project for the help. You guys are a Godsend.

My question is: is it wise to replace the axel to trans-axle seal at the same time, even if it is not leaking?

What is the part number for the seal?

I've left the old ones in through multiple CV drops without trouble before, but you need to be very careful to not damage the seal and it needs to be in good shape. If it does leak you'll need to pop the CV out again, so you know how much work that is. The driver's side seal is much harder to remove than the other one.

As cheap as these are, though, some folks change them every time.
