As Christmas is coming soon, I made to myself some gifts, thanks to rockauto rebates.

With these discounts, I try to buy parts that I will not buy normally.

This year, Rockauto had some kind of a restoration kit for CV axle joint (27$ CA with no core fee). I was curious because CV axle for SHO aren't no longer available new. That came in a very old Motorcraft box.

Parts numbers :
TX-250
F50Y-3B413-A
20355B

20191216 172733 20191216 172825 20191216 173020

I'm wondering if that part is really for SHO or a misclassified one for SLO only.

Any thoughs ?

-> Fordpartgiant lists them for Taurus 1995-2007 that let me think its for SLO...
-> Yoyo parts lists them for Taurus 1995-1999 and Lincoln 1989-1994 (pointing for SHO)
-> A guy on E-bay selling this part out of a scrapped SHO lists the part for SHO only (he possibly rode the number on his part, which its a good clue)

Other question : If I repair one CV axle do I need to restore also the other "half" of the shaft (where there is a second boot) ?

Can this kit fit on the 2 sides (driver and passenger) ? I don't know well these parts, except lenght, is there any other difference between sides ? If it fit, it could be a good alternative to the right CV axle witch is more difficult to find.

Thanks for the infos,

I am guessing based on my memory and what I am seeing in the picture, but that doesn't look like the inner, but might be an outer. I

I remember correctly when I had a SLO version, the difference was in the middle shaft length.

Ok thanks. (good new)

Yes its an outter "half". Is there bearings in the other half ? Probably I guess...

I'm wondering if the wear might be more in the outter side rather than in the inner side...

According to the photo I took on the net over time, there is also a difference in the shape of inner side of axle (between SHO and SLO) but I can be wrong. There is 3 big grooves on SLO ones and SHO stills round like outter side. (Hope Im clear here...)

You are spot on. There are like half moon impressions in the SLO, and full cylinder on SHO. Definitely different there.

The tranny side has a different setup, but does have bearings.
