Back in Michigan ... again.
Greetings all,

For those who missed the announcement in my aftermath thread, or the big meet in Detroit this past Saturday, there are some changes in store for Tri-State SHO/SVT.

First off, BIG hats off both to Beth and John for keeping this club going. Things have been kinda quiet for awhile but these two enthusiasts already have more than a second helping of busy in their lives, and I want to personally thank them for their time and effort invested into our club.

John sent me a PM waaaaay back in May... actually within hours of me announcing my return to Michigan. He asked me if I was interested in taking over Tri-State when I returned in August. Since I am a glutton for punishment (and somewhat of an auto enthusiast) it didn't take long for me to accept, and as of this past meeting I'm the new President of Tri-State :)

In that time I considered different kinds of activities, different directions in which to take the club, etc. The biggest change, effective as of this past meet, is the addition of several regional representative to assist with club activities. Let's face it... Tri-State SHO/SVT covers a rather fat chunk of the Great Lakes area. With gas prices at record levels and free time for many growing smaller each day I'll be the first one to step up and say that I'm not going to be driving to a heck of a lot for meetings, and I'm sure others will agree. With that in mind, I'm hoping to make Tri-State more active overall, but also more active on a smaller, regional level. I see Tri-State as having a few big events a year... perhaps 2 or 3. But on smaller levels maybe we have events happening at a rate of 2 or 3 every month or two. Naturally everyone would be invited to the smaller, region-specific events. But by holding a drag day at Lapeer one week, a GTG at Quaker Steak the next and an autocross in Ft. Wayne a couple weeks later, suddenly the summer becomes pretty active for ALL the enthusiasts in the club without the need for them to drive hundreds of miles just for a little activity.

To coordinate this activity we have two separate tools: Our new regional reps and a brand new email listserver through yahoogroups. All events will be Tri-State events and they'll have the support of myself as well as all available resources from the club itself. However it will be the regional representatives who take the lead role in event organization. It will also be the responsibility of the regional reps to campaign for club discounts at places of their choosing. In this day and age any kind of price break is welcome, and you'd be surprised at just how easy it to get these discounts... walk in and say "hey, I've got this car club; if you can cut us a special deal I'll see about throwing some business your way." Every place I talked to back in the SVT/SHO Society days gave some kind of discount, so reps... let's get some good deals for our members! Part stores, shops, restaurants... the sky is the limit. And hey, if you're NOT a rep but think you can get some club discounts, go for it!

Since we're a group of Contour enthusiasts as well as SHO enthusiasts, I've created a Tri-State yahoo group to help us all stay in touch. With the yahoo group we can use a single email listserver and stay in quick contact. This will be ideal for those "last minute" meet ideas that pop up, or if a member is in need of local parts or a little mechanical help.

I ask that all Tri-State members subscribe to this group. It's VERY easy; it will only take a minute and it's completely free of charge. Just click on the following link to access the main page, click the join button on the right side and then follow the instructions. http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/tristateshosvt/

If you don't have a yahoo account you will need to register for one, but it's very simple (and free) to sign up.

I plan to do most of the club news and updates through the yahoo email list, so I do ask that current/prospective Tri-State members sign up as soon as possible.

As for the regional reps... I bet you're wondering who they are ;) So without further anticipation:

Western Michigan: Todd R. (Todras)
Steve C. (Xchang)

Indiana: John E. (SHO2NV)

Ohio: Denny R. (Denny)

Eastern Michigan: Chris S. (that's me!)
Beth M. (Bizzy)

I'd still like to add another rep for Indiana and Ohio so if anyone is interested hit me with a PM or just post here. As for the future, it's all flexible. If there are a lot of enthusiasts in a particular area we'll add more reps. If an area becomes dead then we'll take reps away. Basically, if there's a group of enthusiasts in this area looking for a serious club, we want to be there, and I have no problems adding new reps to different areas if there are enough enthusiasts.

As for future events; we do have a couple things in mind yet for this year. Among them, a Lapeer drag day, year end cruise, Christmas party, and actually I wouldn't mind holding a Haloween party somewhere if there's enough interest. Costumes can be fun

Anyway, that's the latest. As always, a club is only as good as its membership, so SPEAK UP with any thoughts, ideas, requests etc.

Here's to a great looking future for the enthusiasts in our area :thumb:

"I've got the hookup nephew" with FoMoCo, I'll look into rules about my discount usage.

And yeah another person with Ohio would be cool since I'm not too familiar with the state, nor is my long term future looking good with the place either

Denny... I've been thinking about it and if nobody minds I would like to be a rep. I've only put together a few things... a couple tranny pulls (all on my car of course) and a subframe connector meet last summer. I obviously know more about the northern part of the state so you can take care of the southern half as I know there are some fun roads down south for a rally or something. We of course always do the QS&L thing at the beginning of every December (I drove a rental Stratus last year but still managed to get pulled over). We could do things right over the border at Milan or a Norwalk meet. There's a local performance shop I get my nitrous refilled at and the guys are pretty cool so I'm sure we could get a dyno day (with discount prices of course). There's just a bunch of things I can think of off hand. Looks like I better go make a yahoo account.

Good Luck Bret!!!

And to add....Chris, Congrats!!!!! I know you will do an AWESOME job with the club. You did a **** of a job with the other tri-state club, although a few members kinda messed that up. BTW, welcome back to MI. I did plan on making this weekend but I had a race and it was kinda important with points and all. I havent been active in the sho scene lately cuz of some stuff that happened in the past and I am HOPING its all over now and cant wait to get back into the sho scene again.

I think Jim would be a good 2nd rep for Ohio, he's young, has good ideas for meets and what-not and also has the energy to go along with it which is required to make things happen.

Question though, if we're doing chapters, Ohio is a big state to cover. Should we maybe try to get someone to rep the north and south of the east side of Ohio perhaps? Just a thought.

Thanks for the warm regards everyone :)

I've thought about additional reps in different areas; I think right now it would be best to stick with 2 and see what kind of response there is. I'd hate to saturate an area with reps only to have nothing BUT reps in that area. As I said at the meeting; if an area seems pretty active then we'll try and get more reps in there. Before I go campaigning further though I'd like to see more activity in a particular area.

Jim & Chuck; I'd love to have you both as reps :thumb: However... before I go final on that I'd like to give the Contour guys a little more time. Right now the club reps are primarily SHO folk, and I'd still like to try and balance the scales a bit more. Nothing personal by any means... I know you're all open minded enthusiasts but Contour specific reps would just make a better impression in the Contour community *cough RYAN cough*

I'll give them another week; if nobody from the Contour boards step up then the positions are yours :)

I'll try to get some more news & such out next week. I'm swamped to my butt trying to get a job right now, especially now that bills are streaming in. And uh... I sorta just bought another "project"... we did need another car and this one is special.
