Ok, so I bought an 11 SHO with 35k miles on it onWednesday, drive it to work Thursday and on my way home the engine light comes on... FML. Engine is still running fine though. No hesitation, no vibration, no backfires, just as much power as ever, exhaust smells and sounds fine.

I take it to my local mechanic to read codes. It's throwing camshaft crankshaft correlation code.

Today is Friday and its still running fine. I talked to my local dealer today (still under warranty) and will be taking it in on Monday for them to look at and hopefully fix.

Question is, what's wrong for it to throw that code? If the cam and crank were really out of alignment, it would either not run, or run like shit. I think. So is this just a bad sensor or broken wire? Or could it be something serious?

I've only owned the car for 3 damn days and I already love it. By far my favorite car I've ever had. I hope it's nothing serious and if it is I hope Ford's power train warranty covers it.

So it's giving you the P0016 code?

Looks like the TSB 15-0044 (officially only for F150's) needs to be performed. Good thing you still have warranty :)

So timing chain? Damn.

Guess I gotta hope they don't void the warranty, and given that, they can get her back on the road quick. I love that car, having it in the shop forever after only 3 days of driving it?....:shame:

TBH, most people who buy used have no idea why the prev owner turned the car in. The problem may/may not have occurred before, it may have been intermittent, etc etc etc. Better to have it all fixed now than later :) Have them inspect the cam phasers while they are at it.

I agree, buying used is a mystery. The fact that the car is still under factory warranty and has a warranty from the used lot was the selling point. I bought it at 34,9xx miles. So I'm sure it was a lease. Fat chance someone was nice to a lease.

Well she's in the Ford shop. Turned out to be a cam phaser. Should be back on the road this week.

Doubt they replaced both, but that's what I'd like to see :) Let us know how the SHO performs after!

The engine light is on, and car is running fine. They are telling the whol job will be $2500 including them suggesting I change the water pump while I am at it. Can someone please recommend what I should do? The milage is 95,000 The check engine code is th p0016

If they have to go in to do a timing set then a water pump is warranted. That pump has seals internal to the engine. There are circumstances where the waterpump failing has pumped coolant into the engine and destroyed it. It is a bad design and is used on other vehicles and manufacturers over the years but it sucks. What was their diagnosis other than the code you posted?

It sounded like the phazer, but the also told me they can't be 100% sure until they get in but that he trust his machanic very much on this. Can they tell it definitely is the phazer? I really couldn't tell any difference in the driving at all. Does it really cost that much. They told me its showing 13 hrs of labor.

I have the older cars and understand engines but not th eexact design of the sideways 3.5. I'd have to look at what all has to be torn down. I'm sure if you use the search function you might be able to pull up some posts. There is also an ecoboostperformance.com forum to look around. They have plenty of issues posted over there.

Looking at some f150 ecoboost posts they have 1500-3000 depending on the parts and labor. The higher numbers have new timing chains and gears. Those are probably easier to work on as they are north south config.

i have an appointment Monday to fix this. Can anyone tell me if there is anything else with this engine in the year 2015 that I should be looking out for. Trying to decide if I want to fix it or trade it in on a vehicle.

Ok. Evidently it was the timing stretch timing belt ect., and I had them replace the water pump while in there. Costed me $2300. Parts was around $530. The charged me over $1700 for labor. Now I have to ask this. When they first quoted me they said it was going to about 13 hours ect. I dropped the car of Monday morning and they called me at 4:30 in the afternoon to tell me it was done. So lets just say 7 hours it took them. Does this sound about the right cost for 7 hours of work?

I'm seeing quotes all over the place for the cost. As for the actual labor hours to pull it off?? Usually techs get proficient enough to get the job done under book time (customer still pays full b time). That's how they can increase profit, and techs can increase income if they get paid by the book/hr. at least at dealer service that's what I've noticed from people I used to know who turned wrenches for a living.
