CPS failure without codes?

hey, guys...starting to get worried about my '93. driving between work and home the last two days, i've experienced 3-5 stutters...this morning was the worst - as it happened, the digital tach (digital dash swap) dropped to zero, but everything else stayed on, lit up and running (radio, defrost, etc). the first couple times it was just a split second, but the last and worst, it was just dead...i pulled onto the shoulder and was slowing down to stop and it came back to life...drove the next 35 miles into work with no issues...

...of course, i'm thinking CPS...no idea if it's ever been replaced, but i pulled the codes at lunch and only get one for PS which i'm aware of because the pressure switch is disconnected...has been for a year because i'm using an '89 rack.

so, is this issue most likely the CPS and i'm just not getting codes?

It might be the CPS. Only troubleshooting will tell for certain.

The CPS, even if dead, does not always set a code. Makes it a lot tougher.

My CPS failed without throwing any codes.

Mine did the same thing. No codes. Bad CPS.

The good thing is that it isn't very expensive, and not too hard to replace as long as you have very small hands and/or a flexible small socket tool.

thanks for the input guys...it's been fine since the initial problem, so i plan on driving it until it something happens again.

is there any additional troubleshooting i can do to isolate the problem?

also, could the LPM be screwing with the EEC possibly preventing the codes from showing up?

i bought the '93 to get me back and forth from the airport when i was working from home and traveling (feb '04) and i've since taken a job that's got me commuting 145 miles daily...i know i'm pushing this car - it's close to 200K now, but it's been rock solid so i haven't been motivated to find something else yet...
