Does anyone have the diagrams for the AC line routing on the first gen? I do not know if the second gen is any different, if they aren't then that'll work too.

Second, is the accumulator on the firewall the same irrespective of year or trim?

The AC system is the same basic system in all the MTX's, but is different in the ATX's. IIRC, the accumulator for the MTX is up by the front motor mount.

That makes sense. I noticed there isn't any room at the back of the firewall for my accumulator that I pulled out of a GL.

i'm curious about some wiring/routing diagrams as well. Trying to round up all the pieces I need to do an AC swap into the rust bucket.

I have Ford shop manuals for both Gen 1 and Gen 2s, and the diagram on both shows the ATX version with the accumulator at the firewall. Essentially yes, as stated, the a/c systems for the MTX cars are exactly the same except for fittings for R-12 on earlier years and fitting for R-134A on later years. The same accumulator will work, but if it has an R-12 fitting, I think you can just put a 134A adapter on it and go with it.

I just installed a liquid line w/orifice tube (it's integrated in the line) and an accumulator on my 95. I'm going to do an a/c overhaul on my 89 since the compressor died.

Shop around for parts, you can probably find a better deal on the liquid line and accumulator on Ebay. I have found the accumulator for 40-60 bucks vs. the $100+ that they usually go for. Liquid line runs about $25. Condenser $50-75 (and I just missed a deal on Ebay for one at $26 shipped--damn), Compressor $200+. Re-use everything else if you can. 2 of the lines are obsolete (one of those going from the bottom of the accumulator to the compressor). The manifold lines are still available, but they are $$$$.

If your obsolete lines are fuxored, find an industrial supply house that specializes in hydraulic and a/c lines. I had one of my obsolete lines re-formed with new fittings, so it can be done.

To add/ask:

Does any one know for sure that the R134A equipped cars used a larger condenser? And if they interchange between MTX/ATX/SLO?

I'm wondering if putting the larger condenser in an older R-12 car that has been retrofitted would help with the efficiency of the system.

Every one I've seen says 89-95 Taurus with no differentiation. Most of them are Spectra premium.
