have recently noticed my clutch slipping.
i am planning on selling my SHO soon because i am going back to college and need the money but now need to replace teh clutch.
How much would it cost me on average to have some one install a clutch if I buy the parts?

Should i take the car to a clutch shop or to a dealer to do the work. I don't trust my local mechanic to do this but would worry about finding a decent dealer too.

would it be worth my money to buy one of the videos for the mechanic.
I also need a 60k but i think i can do that on my own and also wait but i don't have the garage coverage to do this work every thing would have to be done outside and right now its 35degree'sand has been as low as -5 so i don't want to try this on my own in the driveway.
any suggestions on finding a mechanic to do this that would have any chance of soing a good job.

Thanks Guys
fred

Fred,

Shonut has the clutch kit for $219, which is a very good price. Labor ranges from $500 at the average "shop" to $1200 at the dealer. If you can, do it yourself. It's a whole lot cheaper, and you know how the job was done.

Where are you geeting those prices?
The local independant shop wanted $1,000 plus parts.
The Ford dealer wanted $1,500 plus parts.
The chain clutch shop slammed the phone down when I said SHO.

Wow! That is steep.

I had mine replaced and they charged $500 R/R Labor. I supplied the parts. Omaha, huh? I used to be back there twice a year, when my grandma lived there. I dont get back much, anymore, since she moved to Michigan. Nice town, lots of friendly people.

Mine was 500 at a local mechanic, the tranny was 900 and it came out to be 1900 with both of the labor charges.

Does anyone have the standard shop hour quote on a clutch replacement? I'm looking at replacing my clutch within a few weeks and just curious what the manual has for a time quote. Thanks.
