Has anyone changed out their radiator cooling fan motor? I was getting ready to put mine back in and noticed the fan was locked up. I see motors for them listed several places and was wondering if they change out with no problems or should I look for a whole new fan set up??

IMO it would be a lot cheaper and easier to just find a new fan. Actually I think I even have one, I don't think it's listed in my parts ad, but shoot me a pm if you decide to go that route;)

EDIT: I have one if your car is an mtx

Just swapped out the radiator fan motor on my 93 MTX. Took the old motor out of the fan shroud (which was rusted in there REAL nice!). Had to take a hammer to the back part where the nub sticks out and used some PB Blaster in the process. Be careful though, because the whole shroud assembly is plastic!

One thing to note is that the fan motors are in fact different for the MTXs and the ATXs (as well as in price). The MTX fan motor cost just over $60 at Advance Auto. Also, the MTX fan motor does not include an electrical connector, so the old wires and connector need to be cut and spliced on to the new motor's wires. However, the ATX motor does have the connector.

Hope this helps!

You can pick up a fan from a Volvo 950 with the single electric fan(it also has small flaps on the shroud). This motor bolts into the SHO's housing, and IIRC you can use the stock SHO fan blade as well. I did not because mine broke trying to take the old motor out. I just simply used the volvo fan blade. It is slightly smaller, but I have not had any cooling problems with it.
The motor is also much beefier in design, and I'm sure it pulls as much if not MORE cfm than the SHO's fan.

Just another option. :thumb:
