This is on the 92. Was wondering what relay has gone out, or what I need to replace. The darn thing overheated today in stop and go traffic! Boiled over, but no damage to motor or anything, just need to get that taken care of.

I might have a fan assembly off one of the parts cars. I need to check..

If I don't have one, is it better to get the fan assembly off of a junker? How much is the relay and where exactly is it? Thanks for the help as usual guys..need to keep the daily btr sho up and running frm a to b!

Will the fan come on with the AC? If so, then you may have a bad ECT... If not, then you could have a bad relay...

You can try and tap the Constant Control Relay Module (CCRM), it is the module under the emmisions cover(above radiator w/stickers) on the right side. That is where your relay is housed. You can drill out the rivets and replace the relay yourself, or you can test a whole different module to see if that is your problem.

Hehehe.. Thanks!!! I thought it was pretty funny, even though the commercial is starting to annoy me. thumb

Why have you not suspected that the fan motor brushes may be worn out? Check for voltage at the electrical connector on the fan. If 12V is found with the A/C set to AUTO and the engine running then the problem is the fan motor itself. This is the most common failure mode for the radiator fan.

im with Scott on this. i suffered the same malady, only to find my brushes had plum wore out. and good luck finding the correct fan motor for an MTX. i ended up going to an electrical house and getting brushes and installing them myself. they arent the right grade, cause evey time my fan comes on, the lights dim majorly and the volt gauge does a quick dip to 12V before coming back to 13.2. will soon be replaced with an aftermarket fan assembly.

Well if the fan motor brushes are indeed worn, my likely most cost effective solution is to just get a new assembly from a parts car, no?

Most likely that would be the easiest and cheapest.

Run 12v to the fan and you'll know if the brushes are bad or not!

On my 92 the fan motor brushes wore out. If you determine this to be the problem, either place a wanted to buy ad here on the forum or contact www.alfitz.com

that cooling fan on my 92mtx went out too. After tracing EVERYTHING we finally put a voltometer (sp?) right where it plugs into the fan, turned on the ac and saw that it was in fact getting the juice, so I went to a junkyard and got a regular taurus 2-speed fan, rigged it up with 2 wires for running on high, and voila! engine about to overheat and vavoooom air is blasting out from the bottom of the car and a cool engine is the result!!! btw....took about 30 mins. total.
