FYI My Cooling Fan stop working few weeks ago left the car on for about 5 min and got back in and the ac was blowing hot air and the Coolant temp was on H. Took it in to the Ford garage and got the whole fan module replaced. Seemed to fix the problem so far tho no idea what caused it to fail.

A EB Flex in Ft. McMurray, CN had this happen when it was below freezing... His also overheated, even in those conditions. Same fix. This happened over a year ago & he posted (elsewhere) that there were a bunch of defective ones. Not likely to happen again.

i have heard of other SHOs with defective cooling fans. including one guy who his defective fan replaced with another defective fan. and had a third fan put in that finally seemed to work correctly.

There were a handful of owners that experienced cooling fan failure. The contacts in the relay(s) get corroded for some reason.

There has been a TSB issued as a result.

Part of it includes replacing a module or relay, the other part incorporates updating the fan protocols that essentially make it cycle on sooner, as well as cycling on more often.

Apparently by it running sooner, and more often, it's somehow keeping the contacts cleaner.

Luckily I haven't had any issues, but then again, I was the sole person responsible for asking LMS to re-program a portion of their tune files in order to take advantage of the 170 lower temp thermo I installed from Unleashed Tuning.

I wanted the fans to cycle on at a lower temp in order to compliment the new thermo.

I believe as a result, now everyone has the new fan settings when purchasing a tune from LMS.

Sorry for your experience, but glad to hear you got it all fixed :thumb:

My fans were re-programmed by Torrie almost immediately after I got his 170 deg. T-stat. However, it really doesn't seem to make much difference in temps, but does help temp go down a bit faster after WOT runs at the strip.

The biggest improvement in my IAT & Engine temps has been my custom RotoFab J-Pipe CAI. It definitely runs much cooler and cools down quicker than the AirAid that I purchased.

(glad you got the fans fixed... sorry for the thread hyjack....)

Cooling problems

This sounds like it might be the same problem I've experienced with my SHO. It's hot here in FL, every time I stop at a stop light or slow down for traffic on the freeway my AC clicks off and the car rapidly becomes an oven. I've taken it in once already -- it was so bad that the engine started cutting out and the temperature light would come on all the time -- so it has improved slightly since then.

Only 10k miles, 2011 SHO.

I sure hope they can fix this!

Greetings!
Just had mine done by a German Ford dealer here in Stuttgart. I had noticed my temp spike twice over a 6 week period, but thought I was dreaming as the fans kicked on and then it seemed fine. I put in a 170 T-stat from Lethal Perf. and was taking my wife to Liechtenstein for the weekend when I got caught in STAU (traffic). I had been racing a Mercedes and a Porsche when we all had to slow (and then stop) due to the back up. By the time I saw the temp get up towards the "H" I was just able to get to the pull off area when the chime started going crazy (along with the symbols in the dash). After letting it cool down, I turned on the heat to full and with all the windows and sunroof open, gingerly nursed her home. The dealership took a week to get the parts and had it fixed in a day, one new module with Ford's updated program and two new fans.
I knew the fans had failed as the 80 AMP fuse was good and no fans with the AC on. Once you turn the AC on, the fans should start running.
My lil lady has just over 13K miles on the ODO, which is why I was so surprised the fans had completely failed!

Alyanm, get the into the dealer ASAP and make sure to get it documented! The ECM has a overheat protection feature (designed for the loss of coolant) that shuts cylinders down (randomly or sequentially) to cool it off, but I wouldn't keep pushing it. Since it was designed to do that WITHOUT coolant in the system, our engines have water cooled turbos and even when the PCM protects it in an overheat condition the coolant will still transfer the heat to the motor!
I was able to shut mine off just as the indicator came on before it really got hot and I still am concerned if I damaged the head and/or head gasket!

Good luck and thanx for the great write-ups guys!
Mike

This just happened to me yesterday to my 14,000 mile 2011 (bought new late in the summer of 2012, figured with no performance changes, I was happy getting invoice price on a car with 17 miles on it).

****** me off, 'cause I had the service bulletin done at my first service a few thousand miles ago. >_<

Fortunately, it was in a parking lot of another building at the same company I work at, so I just parked it and ditched it. Got it towed to a dealer today just to be safe (I was thinking that it would probably get enough airflow across the radiator if I drove it, but I'm not about to screw around with heat damage and warranties!)

Fingers crossed the dealer does a good job. Still trying to find the right place to take the beast for its regular vet checks. :-/
