Tuesday morning is the car show. There will be judges and they give out trophys in a few different catagories.

The tech session is your chance to ask any SHO related questions or get advice on a problem you've been having with your car. Sorta like we do here on the forum.

Are the trophies given out to only certain registered cars or are they available to EVERYBODY that signed up for the convention? You can go to the tech session even if u arent staying there?

Everyone in the car show is eligible for a trophy. I can't remember what all the categories are though.

If your registered for the convention, you can attend the tech session. It doesn't matter if your staying in the hotel or not.

Kirk, I don't know what your schedule is but mine is TIGHT. I will be indisposed at UMASS-Amherst on Sunday until close to 5pm. If you'll be meeting up with anyone on the way, I might be able to catch you. oh_my

Were you thinking of heading straight through the night? You said you were still setting up, right? Let me know.

If I'm going alone, I have every intention to go straight through until I get to Madison. I may stop to grab an hour of sleep here or there, otherwise, 17 hours of coffee, loud music and speed. boink

Pre-registering is almost a must. You may not be let into certain events if you just show up at the hotel without pre-registering.

Nothing really happens Monday except some registration stuff at the hotel. The majority of the people don't show up until Monday evening or even Tuesday morning. There will be a room at the hotel where the convention staff is setup. Just go there and they'll have all the info you'll need regarding the events, times, places, etc.

Two corrections.

Monday Night is the first meeting or gathering of ALL the SHO people in the Hotel, usally there are door prize auctions.

And as Far as the car show, that will be decided on by Don and the hosting group on how the car show is held, last year everyone got one. The year before there were 3 per Gen and best of class then Best of SHO. There are different formats to follow and I personally hope that its the top 3 again. The awards cermony last year was longer than I got to race on Summitt Point. I dont think people that are Missing parts off the car deserve anything at a car show. IMHO

Back in '98 I went to the Cleveland convention. I was told there were plenty of spaces left for the Mid-Ohio track day just a couple weeks before. I hadn't been sure if I could make it until the week before. Well, I got there late on the first day, and there were no spots left. I had race rubber with me all ready to go. I went down to the track hoping there would be a dropout or that I could weasel my way into it. No dice.

I still enjoyed Cleveland, the rally, drags and fellowship. But if you told me no-go on the track, I might not have gone through the headache to have the SHO ready and travel alone.

Now, Don was the one who told me there SHOULD be no problem and it was. No ill-will towards him and he'll probably tell you the same, preregister!

I've about got things set but I had not heard back from the SHOcago guy about the lunch spot, so I found one myself tha I'll run by him.

I'm also expecting some info from this forum about the name/existence of the Service Plaza on the IN Turnpike around MM126. I don't want to pick the name for the one in the wroong direction (like last year) and have folks drive 12-15 miles out of their way!!

Anyway, Kirk, tentatively we're looking at leaving the Plaza somewhere near MM126 at 9:30 AM Central Daylight Time (actually, right there it is Indiana Eastern Time that isn't on Daylight Savings, so it equates to CDT.....just call it Indiana Goofy Time....IGT!!).

Tentative lunch is at Noon at Chevys Fresh Mex in Naperville.

Just print out the pre-registration form and the drivers information form(if you're entering the road course event), fill them out and mail them in with your payment. Shortly afterwards, you receive your information package in the mail.

I will most likely leave on Sunday morning and have reservations at the host hotel for Sunday evening. So I will be traveling the Ohio/Indiana toll road route one day early. If I spot any real fun sections as far as construction I can let Metros or Porter know. Keep in mind that in Ohio, I80-I90 under construction in some areas (between Cleveland and Toledo) to expand it from 2 to 3 lanes, so give yourself some extra time if you are traveling that route.

I want to thank all the experienced SHO convention people for helping answer some questions from newbies!

Let me just add a few things:

Pre-registration. Not absolutely required, but it REALLY helps Jan (the wife) and I if we can get all your convention stuff and name tags done in advance. Also we can get meals and count people and make plans better. We will do our best to accomodate late arrivals, but we may run out of things like dash plaques and windshield numbers, and some events may sell out.

You MUST register to attend any of the main events like entering the car show, or track events. Registration fees cover the base expenses of the convention, but basically each event covers itself after that. This is a self-supporting event, we usually don't get any money support from anyone else.

SHOw: the $5 fee is to help defray one of the biggest expenses at the convention, trophies. The minimal fee insures that people enter the SHOw are serious at least a little.

We gave out trophies to the top two winners in each class, and a certificate to the third place winners in each class last year. Classes went:

Gen 1, Gen II, Gen II with stock and modified divisions for each generation. Also there is BEst of SHOw judged and Best of SHOw popular vote.

We may re-institute the High Mile class with it being a non-judged event, voted on by anyone that is registered at the covention (not just those entered in the SHOw). we are still tweaking this.

Caravans: There is a new revised caravan info page on the web site that my son Ken has put up. There is a form to send in and he will keep information up to date. Please use this form and refer to the page on the web site often so we have ONE main place for everyone to go for the latest information. Thanks to Ron Porter for his past help with this, and for whatever he can do this year!

Blackhawk Farms eventand drags: We are not close to selling out yet, but we do have a good amount of entries for this early. I urge anyone that is even CLOSE to considering this event (and the drags) to do it! I am serious when I say I doubt we will ever have another track day this cheap. If you have ever done an open track day with other groups, you know that $135 is dirt cheap. Most track days run $200 and up. Plus you usually don't get as much time and you have to put up with unfriendly groups sometimes. Our group is about as friendly as you can get!

The same goes for the drags. Tracks are getting more and more expensive. For us to keep costs down, we need cars on the track. Even if you don't go all out, you can still have more fun at this type of convention event than at any public test-n-tune day. More runs, more fun, less pressure. Go as fast as you want.

We have ways for you to do Blackhawk and never come close to overheating your brakes, just attend the manditory drivers meeting at the track!

Thanks for all the support, and contact me directly if you have questions that don't get answered by the other good people here: mailto:[email protected][email protected]</a>
