Car had new control arms installed right before I got it.
I see they have grease fittings.
I am hearing lots of noise when turning the wheel or driving with the wheels turned... could be axels, but just wondering if I need to grease the control arms? Could the cv boots have been emptied when the control arms were installed?
I apologize if that was an ignoramous question. pcorn

No such thing as a bad question. The CV boots should have tight fitting straps on them so they don't leak grease. I don't think the control arms need to be greased (do they even make greaseable control arms?). What kind of noise is it making? Is it a groaning? Where is the noise seem to be coming from? Could be something power steering related if coming from the passenger side. But we need more info on the noise. If you are stopped and turn the wheel do you hear the noise?

I think he's referring to the ball joints. Yes, if they have grease fittings, they should be greased with each oil change. They shouldn't be making any noise though. A rubbery squeek when turning the steering wheel is usually your strut bearings. A rhythmic clunking sound while turning a corner is usually a bad CV joint.

That's the ball joint. It's an integral part of the control arm so either term will do..haha. But yes, give each one a few shots of grease with each oil change.

YES, it does make the sound when turning the wheels (car not moving).
It sounds pretty harsh...
is this definitely strut bearings?
It has new shocks, if that means anything...

Put the car on jackstands and have an assistant turn the wheels lock to lock while you listen for the noise. Without a better idea of where the noise is coming from it's hard to tell.

Does it sounds more like a popping noise when you turn the steering wheel? If its a popping grinding noise, its most likely the strut bearings. Its a pain in the neck to replace them, but you might be able to **** them from the top.

do tell :corn:
you nailed it! :thumbs_u:
As a matter of fact, it only does it when turning the wheel... I believe I can rule out axels/cv joints.
Can you give any tips on lubing it??
