Considering a "finish restoration-fest" this (or next) weekend, interest?

Back in Michigan ... again.
Ok folks, my job situation is still up in the air at this point so frankly, I need to make a little cash. I'm considering putting together a resto-fest, similar to a cam fest for this weekend (or possibly next)... basically you'd show up, I'd two-step your car including wet sanding and/or compounding on scratches. You'd be responsible for the final step which is just a final wipedown and wax, and any other little detail work like toothbrushing doorhandles to remove wax/glaze residue, etc. It wouldn't even need to be done right away, though to preserve the finish you'll want to wax it as soon as possible.

I wouldn't be able to handle major projects like my 91 was, but for those with your average use wear & tear I can give your car a new lease on life.

Ordinarily I charge $160 for a full on external resto; for the resto-fest I'll go half price at $80 per car. I can do 3 cars per day, possibly 4 so that gives 6-8 slots total for the fest. Now when I say finish restoration, I'm not just talking about a quick glaze & wax... I'll be using compond and in some cases even sandpaper to remove scratches and restore the finish to a good shine. 95% of detail shops out there will only do an orbital polish or in a few cases use a glaze with a buffing wheel on low speed, but these steps will not remove scratches or restore a deep shine. Because of the risk involved with sanding & compounding a finish most shops can't/won't do a full on paint resto; they simply lack the experience. I actually consider my work to lean more towards what you'd find at a body shop. And after eight years of wheelwork I'm quite good at taking a finish that many would think is trashed and bringing it back to glory. Here's a few pics of what I've done in the past:

My biggest project to date (literally) that I finished up this past weekend:

Can you tell what section I haven't buffed yet? The whole truck looked like that... dingy, chalky white.

6-8 slots available, either this weekend or next. No full size trucks or SUVs, and if your car is in pretty rough shape I won't be able to swing it for the fest (but I can help you out, PM for specifics). Exact location still TBD but it will be southeast Michigan, near my house in Howell. That's about an hour from the Detroit area, 1.5 from the Ohio border, 2 hours from West Michigan and 2.5 from the Indiana border.

Also, $10 per car will go to SHOforum, so you'll be helping support the forum as well :thumb: With winter coming now is the time to make sure your finish is cleaned and protected... so who wants to have a shiny new car? :)

Yes indeed... bought it through Harbor Freight 2 years ago and it's still going strong after several projects. Just as reliable and actually more powerful than the $250 Makita I was using.

Thats such a great deal Chris, and so true.

Our shop charges 80$ for an exterior detail which includes a handwash, engine bay, tires, door jambs, and your wheels and tires. an Orbital wax- which really doesnt do much....

I Have lots of experience doing full compound jobs and 1500 Wet sanding jobs...
for 80$ i can garentee you at a shop this will cost you 200+$... and thats not sanding!

But i truely caution the sanding because of such an old car 10-15 yrs old.... the clear does weaken, and if its been repainted who knows how thick it is. SO YOU CAN GET INTO TROUBLE. IMO i really hate sanding,

Best of luck! Your work looks excellent! I have some pictures of mine ill get on here soon

Can you pick up from Dayton, OH? JK!
Not sure though Chris, I haven't gotten a move out date finalized with the movers, that will most likely be the next time I'm up north. Grrrrrrrr :banghd: if I were up there not only could I get you the little car but a clearcoating peeling, 3.5 years since your touch SHO.

It was going to be this weekend, but I only picked up one confirmation so at this point I'm taking on projects on a case by case basis. The good news? That means more time spent per car. The bad news? Also means more $$$. LMK what you need.

hey chris, i dont know if you remember, but at your end-o-summer bash..my car was the green one with all the nasty scratches on the hood (i think you even looked at it and said it could be repaired)...the clear on my front bumper has been pretty much owned though. Which was my fault..but it was a casualty of getting the spray paint off...

...dont ask...

Anywho, I saw what you did at the EOS bash, i'd totally be interested in a good wetsand/buff/clay job...i don't have any experience with a buffer or wetsanding really...but i'd help out where i could...

...and pay $$$ ofcourse :D

I don't think my car is a project you want to take on, and it's not worth my money to make it 'look' nicer anyways, but i would like to get together with some SHO folk. Just keep me updated on whether or not anything is happening this weekend. Thanks! I swear, I'll make it to one meet this year if it's the last thing I do!!!! :thumb:

This weekend is a TCCA meet down in Ohio, and there is also a cruise over here in the Ann Arbor area that quite a few SHO & Contour folk (myself included) will be at. Check out the SEMI Fall RUN topic posted here in the tri-state forum :thumb:

I'll make a detailing trip to MA... cover my gas & lodging and you got a deal
