My 90 has a B9B1 in it. My question is whether or not an L0S from a 91 will work in mine.

Why go with the L0S when you could run the x2j. They both will plug in but not function 100%. Now with the TwEECer you automatically run the X2J.

It is my understanding that you can go newer but not backwards. In other words, you could take a computer from a 95 MTX and use it in an 89 MTX, but not the other way around. That's what I heard anyway.

Actually, my dear Beth, that is "nothing but myth" (and quite an oxymoronic one at that). One can go either way on any year V6 MTX without a problem, provided you don't try to swap a CA-specific computer (B9Cx, W0Z or W2Z) into a non-EGR equipped car (in which case you would store a code, trip the CEL and possibly experience driveability issues).
