Well after owning this car for 8 months I have actually gotten to drive it.

The issue is sometimes, when I start it the CEL is on it stumbles like its fighting itself and I can hear it misfiring.. but after it warms up the CEL goes off and it runs like normal. sometimes the tach will jump

I also noticed the coolant gauge doesn't stay steady, it sometime drops pretty low and other times its about where it should be

the codes I managed to pull were knock sensor, and coil 1. 215 225

Could it just be as simple as a new coil? or could it be the Cam pos sensor or Crank pos sensor?

please read the codes and report what they are. then we can help you rather than guessing.

I did. 215 and 225, as I mentioned in my first post. 215=Coil 1 primary circuit failure. 225=Knock sensor (KS) not sensed during dynamic response test.

In my experience, a coil code on these cars is 50/50 whether the real problem is the coil or the dis. With your other symptoms, I suspect yours is the dis.

well i put a new coil in and it was running worse and it even stalled. so I put in a fresh tank of gas and then went to oriellys. I hooked up to their tester but got no codes.. after it warmed up and the CEL went off it ran great. plenty of power. not sure what to think, I'm almost wondering if the CTS is bad.

I also pulled off the DIS and had it tested. it tested good.

obd1 testers are so notoriously unreliable at actually reading codes that you should never use one - just count the flashes on the check engine light and get it right.

glad to hear that the new dis fixed it. enjoy!

Thanks,

yeah the Tester really was useless. counting the flashes worked good.

I'm going to need new front tires soon :p

If you need new tires from spinning them, a replacement transmission is in your future as well.

Probably, mostly is because of the cold wet streets. also the tires are already worn pretty good.

and the gas pedal is really really stiff. makes driving gently a little difficult
