While cleaning my car I had this dumb urge to see just how far the coin slots go down (the three spring pressured ones in the center of the consule). Well I broke it and had to take my consule apart to pick up all the coins and pieces that fell below. I managed to find all the pieces but I am unsure of the best way to fix it. I tried to crazy glue the bottom plate back on. Will this hold?

While putting the consol back together I broke the two prongs on the semi-circle cover on the passenger side on the rear of the consule. Should this part be easy to get from ford, or is it long discontinued like 99% of the parts.

Thanks for your help

Edit: while vacuming I dug around under the seats and found the build sheet. It was where it was supposed to be under the passenger seat. Kinda neat to look at.

Edmonton,

I did the same freaking thing recently. I plan on starting the repair with a couple of twelve packs of Molsons ***.

The coin holder is ABS plastic. You can get a small can of the ABS cement, and the purple cleaning fluid, that is used to glue together ABS plumbing pipes. The purple stuff will stain whatever it comes into contact with, so be careful with it.

As an alternative to the purple stuff, you can clean the surfaces to be joined with acetone. You can get acetone from the local chemist.

Again, be careful with this stuff (acetone) as it will mar or discolor any plastic that it comes into contact with. It is a great primer for the glue, because it softens the plastic and cleans it.

Check the alignment of everything before doing any glueing, and figure out how you are going to clamp the pieces together for at least 24 hours.

You can reinforce the glue joints with strips of plastic, say .040 or .060 thick. Many hobby shops have Evergreen sheet plastic in various thicknesses. You could also reinforce the joints with some J-B Weld epoxy, as another alternative.

Keep in mind that molded plastic has a mold release (oily) on it that must be cleaned off, or any type of glue will not stick to it.

As for your other part, check with your local salvage yards and/or the forum for someone who is parting out a SHO with your color of interior. A Ford dealer parts "guy" should be able to tell you if the part was used on SHOs only, or on all Taurus', and maybe even Sables, and in what years.

Best of luck, eh! Let me know how it turns out! rangerj

Explain what exact part it was again? We've got 6 or 7 SHO's in the local yard (one that caught fire and melted a good part of the intake eek! ) but anyway, if you absoloutly can't find one locally, let me know, maybe I can hook you up.

I crazy glued the coin holder and if that doesn't work I will try what rangerj suggested.

As for the part that boke I checked with a ford dealership and ford has discontinued it. It is the half moon shape piece about 3" across. it fits on the console just below the compartment that is about the same leavel as the arm rest on the seats. It is on the passenger side. I will try local salvage yards this week. If not I will have to find on off a salvage.

BTW, local guys (stevil & sho Monk3y) do you guys know of any salvage yards with sho's in them.

thanks for your help

I know what part you're talking about--I broke the one on the driver side. Might just have to go to a boneyard and find one. I should think it would be fairly cheap there.

I think the half moon part is on the 50-50 split bench seats that are in the regular Torii also. Those cars are a dime-a-dozen in junkyards. Also I glued my coin holder back together with heavy duty superglue (Locktite Prizm 401) and it worked fine. You will need to clamp it together for the glue to set up properly becaues of the springs.
