I've been having some problems with my car stumbling during light acceleration below 4k rpms. I pulled the codes today and got a code 14. pip circuit failur, suspect pip sensor or tfi mofule or ground or interference problems at the tfi module. Anyone know what this means?
Thanks,
David

The PIP sensor is the crankshaft position sensor, but if it fails, the engine will cut out hard, not just stumble. Have you removed your intake or intake crossover tube lately? check the engine ground strap on the passenger side rear bracket and the two bolts that secure the crossover tube to the intake plenums.

The condition you described sounds more like a secondary ignition problem: plugs and plug wires. Have they been replaced lately? With the right parts? Oil in the plug wells?

I recently replaced both the plugs and wires with new motorcraft parts when I replaced the intake. Had some problems getting it started due to powdercoat on the crossover tube preventing a ground, but when removed the car started right up. NO oil in the plug wells as the seals are new as well. What else should I check?

Maybe check the connectors to the DIS module for water, dirt or corrosion. It still sounds like a circuit malfunction rather than a failed sensor. The CID makes starting hard, the CPS makes starting impossible. Neither usually causes stumbling while running.

What did you gap the plugs to? Did you use dielectric grease (not anti-seize) on the plug boots? You may want to reset the EEC for lack of something else to try.
