I checked my codes a while back. I only ran the KOEO test. I got 11 for the hard faults, meaning system checks ok, then I got 41 for the only code stored in memory. I reset the code, drove 10 minutes, CE light comes back on. Check it again, still 11, then 41. Car does not lack power, does not smoke at all. Temp gauge stays below L at all times. Gas mileage is like 15-20mpg which is kind of bad when i don't drive with the Secondarys open at all.

Now code 41 means lean conditon detected for more than 15 seconds in the rear bank right? Is the motor really running lean? Or do i just have a bad O2 sensor, and its running however it wants? I'm planning on replacing both O2 sensors then reseting the codes. Will running the motor with that code be harmful?

What size socket or wrench fits on the o2 sensors?

Thanks.

Replace your O2 sensors.

The O2 sensor socket is available under AutoZone's Loan-a-Tool program. I believe it is a 7/8".

What the code means is that the sensor is showing the engine is running lean when it probably is not. The computer has tried enriching the mixture to its programable limit, but the sensor still shows lean. This indicates that either the sensor is weak or that there is unmetered air entering the system.

Continued driving under this condition will cause the engine to actually be running rich. This will cause poor fuel mileage and, if left unattended for too long, catalytic converter degradation from the rich exhaust mixture. If you happen to notice the cat glowing red, you know that the engine is running too rich.

Thanks thumb

I will be doing that this weekend. Any advise, other than PB Blaster for a couple days, for getting the sensors out? They both look pretty easy to get at on my MTX car, but they are all rusted.

I just wanna post the part numbers for Bosch O2 sensors for an 89 MTX SHO.

Bosch 13942 w/8in. harness. Front/back

I bought one 13942 and one 13950 (with 12in. harness) knowing the front needed the short one, but not knowing how long the rear harness was. They both are the same length.

Rear O2 sensor was a bitch. Rented the O2 sensor tool set at Autozone. It came wit a 7/8 deep socket, 7/8 special impact-grade tool, and 22mm impact-grade tool for $15 (fully refundable). Front used 7/8 impact tool, took 5 minutes. Rear O2 sensor was totaly different than the front, 7/8 was a liitle too big, 22mm was too big, 13/16 was too small, needed a 21mm. I just used the 7/8 with much work.

I just wanna know why, from the harness to the O2 sensor, the stock ones were the same, but the nut part of the front O2 was adjacent to the threads, while the nut part of the back O2 was spaced back 1 inch from the threads. And they were different sizes (trust me they were madflame ) The 2 new Bosch ones were identical to themselves, except for the length of the harness's (13942,13950).

Thanks.
