CLUTCH TORQUE #S

Well, I finally got around to STARTING the clutch job today. I am too tired to even attempt to go into detail on how much of a pain in the A** this was, but anyway......I was wondering if anyone knew the torque specs for the tranny and the six bolts for the pressure plate. I plan on finishing this tomorrow and NEVER doing it again, unless I have Quirk Ford do it

! Any help is GREATLY appreciated. Thanks!

HAHA! Yeah it was a royal pain in the A** Eric, next time I will listen. I didn't have to pluck the engine though. The tranny also never saw daylight, stayed under the car the entire time...just "relocated" temporarily. Dropping that subframe was a pain cause EVERYTHING is mounted to it. But the best is we get the clutch plate and pressure plate in and bolted, just not to torque yet, and come to find out the TOB I got from NAPA was the wrong freakin' one, AHHHH. But I got the right one now. Still without a car though, it is on jack stands in the driveway,

Oh well, saves me on gas money

But seriously, I DO need those torque specs if anyone has them.

Okay Randy, I must tell you this from experience. First, make sure you stick the alignment tool into the pilot bearing before torquing the bolts down. Second, make sure you loctite all these bolts before torquing them down. Third, there should be an instruction sheet with the PP and Clutch kit that tells what the torque should be and the proper torquing sequence. Make sure you add 10 to whatever that figure is, which I think is only 25 ft lbs. They WILL back out if not torqued correctly. I'll check right now to see if I still have that paper left from my job.

Okay, update....I went to Napa for the TOB and they sold me the wrong one

so I call around and Autozone has one in stock at the Park Ave store in Cranston, go buy it...ironically enough it was made by Valeo, get it home, check it against the stock, it is the wrong f*****g one

!!! So now I have to go TOB hunting tomorrow morning when not all parts stores are open! Damn it!! Thanks Eric and Erik. I will check to see if I have that paper and I will call Rickie tomorrow and have him call Fred for me if I don't have the paper.

Fred has the HELM, and the TQ numbers are in there. Make sure you get the tiny nylon pin when you get the TOB also. When I pulled mine apart, the pin was nowhere to be found. I'm still looking for that paper. I think I threw it away unfortunately.

Okay, I found the sheet, you were right Erik it is 24 ft-lb torque. As for my TOB hunting, NO PARTS STORE CAN GET THE THING!!!! If you ever have to buy one, be careful of the replacement number 4060 from the parts stores, all of them. The Bearing is similar but just shade too small to fit over the sharft. Thanks for your help guys.

Well, I am making out OK, very frustrated though. E-mailed SHOnut perfomance like three times and have yet to hear back from them, so I sucked it up and ordered the TOB and pinch bolts and nuts from FORD directly. They should be in tomorrow and hopefully she will be back on the road by the end of the week. It sucks though, cause I have NO vehicle available to me and have to rely on family and friends for rides to school and work, etc. I just want my car back, sob

But, eh what are you gonna do.....Went to autozone sunday thought o return the TOB they sold me, my father gave me a lift there and we took his 97 t-bird, we come and low and behold, what is parked next to us but a BEAUTIFULL 2002 Ford Thunderbird, Jet Black with Black leather, "drool",....oh my god that is a gorgeous car........

make sure you ask for a TOB for use with a repair sleeve, if you have one that is. the I.D.'s are diffrent between non repair sleeve tob's and repair sleeve TOB's.

also you may want to polish the repair sleeve while your tranny is off. just work some progressively finner sandpaper on it till it's really smooth.

THere is only one part number at the part stores for the TOB. Generally it ends in 4060, listed for a 3.0 Taurus SHO, the inside diameter is just a shade too small. I just got the TOB through Ford, thanks for the tip though.
