Well I just finished rebuilding my tranny. The first 10 minutes of driving seemed like I was driving with a brand new clutch and the engagement was smoother then ever. After a half hour or hour of driving clutch engagement was rough and somewhat jerky at times. I have a strong feeling that my clutch adjuster isn't working properly, like it's not holding the right tension. I also think this because the TOB is chattering (because of a loose tension). I've tried searching for articles on the adjustment mechanism but I'm looking for more specific info on my issue. What would cause the cable to not hold the proper tension. I can pull up on clutch pedal and not hear any clicks of adjustment also. Can someone point me to the things to look at with details, assuming this is my problem. Thanks for any help!

Is there any way that the teeth are too worn to hold the tension? Have you ever laid on your back and adjusted it by hand. You can see what's going on at the right angle. Mabye your adjuster is shot. shrug

My story is similar to yours. I've been told it could be a bad pawl or pawl spring(or a clutch,pp,flywheel problem). I never heard a 'click' when pulling up on the pedal except when eventually I tried it with the cable detatched from the release fork. When released, it would tension just fine, but would of course go back to loose condition with the block or wrench under the pedal, thus releasing the cable.

On a whim, I recently tried something else. I had a helper step on the pedal, release it, and lift it while I tried to restrain the release fork at the transmission. At last the 'clicks were heard and the tranny shifted much better.

Near the end of the first test drive, the cable may have slipped as the shifting became tough again. Also the engagement point was still very near the bottom of the pedal travel. The second time, I gave it about fifteen 'clicks' which produced about a midrange engagement and much better shifting. However, it seems to shift tought after the tranny is warmed up. Does this mean anything? First is still too notchy at times. Still trying to determine if I need to send back the clutch, pp, and flywheel.

Sorry if this is incoherent; just returned from the airshow and I'm half asleep-literally. Great show though.
