So i'm getting started on a clutch replacement. I built the wood engine brace and am ready to support the engine from it. QUESTION: Where to hang the motor from on the backside near the driver's side? I saw on ShoPhoenix he said to use the EGR Bung...I'm not sure what that is? Is it lower in the back on the block and has a sensor looking thing sticking out of it?....Pic? Anyone?

I have the y pipe off....and the intake ( i know its not necessary but did it anyways)...

Thanks a head of time....

When you take off the y-pipe, you will be able to see 2 unused holes in the rear of the rear head.

I used one of the holes that the intake support was bolted into. So, you meant you could see it from underneath once the y was off.

Ok, next question:

pulling the axles out....anyone have a picture? The thing that gets me about all this stuff is i don't know the specific names of all the crap, so until you've done this, sometimes its hard to know what some is talking about without a pic...

Pry bars.. hard to say what sizes I got to work, but wedge it in there behind the "********* part" next to the tranny and it should "pop" out. Gotta push/pry a little harder than you might want to .. but it'll come out. The other one you gotta be more careful about, and not damage or move the center bearing. I pussed out personally, and just disconnected the centerbearing and removed the entire thing. Then seperated the halves on the bench. :)

yup rear driver side intake support whole works very well... as far as axles go, i never had a problem... a stiff push with prybar then a quick rotation of the axle get to the other side, another stiff push and it popped right out. good luck... its not as bad as you think it will be.pretty straight forward.

Ok, so since no one has come right and and said it or i haven't seen it specifically, do i have to remove the nut on the rotor side to get the axle out or does it come apart some where on the back side of the rotor? It sure seems like i need to get that nut out on the outside.....This one in the pic....

LoL.. yea yea.. the spindle nut? big one? 29 mm.. maybe 32.. I forget.. ya thats gotta come off.. do that with the wheel on, and weight on the car. Much easier that way to get it loose with a big breaker bar. :)

You might get it off with a really nice impact.. 3/4 would do it.. if its already off the ground and all.. If you can lower that corner with a wheel on, its easy..

Whoa... no need to pull the axle nut off. You need to pull the suspension off the knuckle (tie rod ends, LCA's, Sway bar endlinks), then you can simply pull it out... Even if you did pull the axle nut off, you would still have to remove all of the suspension components to get the axle out. BTW, the socket you need is a 31mm, IIRC.

or are you saying the the driver's side axle can stay attached to the hub and pull it off of the transaxle? I'm following the SHOPHoenix removal directions on the sticky here on the site...

Yes, the axle can stay mounted to the hub.

I thought you were trying to pull the axle out without pulling any suspension off. My bad.

Ok, well with some help from my brother this afternoon, everything is out. we just pulled the axles from the tranny and let them hang from the hubs....

now i need to get the dowels into the flywheel and start putting everything together.

i'll add some pics of my pile and a question i have about the front motor mount....and the stabilizer attached to it.

random tear down pics & motor mount question

Here's some pics from the weekend. I got my flywheel dowels today from a Ford dealer. So i'll be putting it back together before the end of the week.

Is this how the stabilizer is supposed to be installed on the motor mount? see pic...

this motor mount is in terrible shape...look at the bolt hole.....torn apart....this thing was toast...
