My clutch quadrent is loose. i have tried to reset it, but there is no tension on the pedal. everytime i try to reset it, it just gets loose again. Texantony fixed it temporarily at the run, but by the time i got home it already started to release high again. so i tried to do what he told me to do, pull the clutch pedal up, the pull the quadrent down a little. and it worked once. but by the time i got to the car wash, it was doing it again. so i tried to do it again, and then all of a sudden it got loose. Whatdid i do? did the spring in thee pedal get loose or did the quadrent just get messed up? i have been trying to get it fixed but no luck. Tony told me to get a long screwdriver and pull up on the pedal, then push the quadrent back to the original place. everytime i do that, once i let go of the quadrent it just clicks all the way back down towards me. What do i need to do? get a new quadrent or rig something up? this is my daily driver guys, so yeah i do need this done quickly. thanks!

Chances are the spring is broke or the plastic teeth are stripped. Ford sells a quadrent kit for about $15, I suggest you use a ford manual to help in the repair.

Good luck,

Do you know wht it comes with? thanks for the help. i would get a hold of tony, but they are all heading back up to DFW. It comes with a new spring and the two plastic quadrent pieces.

is there anyway i can rig it to last a couple days, atleast so i can get the part. i know i can drive it without the clutch, cause i did it last night. well not without, but it wasnt all there. i started the car in 2nd gear, and took off. got on the highway, then got on it a little to get it to 60. after that i put it in to 5th. i dont know how it did, but it did. so i was crusing home normally, then when i had to get off the highway, i put it in to neutral, and coasted to a stop. when i came to the stop, i tried to put it in 1st, i pressed the clutch, or wiggled the pedal, if you will, and amzingly it poped in to gear. but it took off as if i droped the clutch. so i when i had to shift out of 1st, i pulled it out, tried to put it into 2nd, wiggled the clutch pedal and bam! got it in to gear. and i did it for the rest of the gears as well. i dont know how it was doing that but luckly i made it home. so tomorrow i have to go pick up the part and take it to my mechanic, to see if he can put it in. man was that a night!

Yea park it until its fixed, if your not careful you'll be rebuilding your transmission next. Your trans sincros and blocking rings won't take much more of that abuse.

Junkyard is an option. I've pulled a couple of pedal assemblies now, and they're a bit of a pain to change depending on the year. Since I think you may have to pull yours anyway, it may be worthwhile to just yank a working pedal assembly out of a JY car.

FORD item only part #E7FZ7L583A list price $33.47 in stock at my local dealer, my cost $26.78.

Ford prices go up every 6 months, last year I paid $13 and change. I followed the directions right out of the Ford manual, once you get the assembly out from under the dash you can then tear it down and do some of the reassembly on a bench.

Have fun,
