I will be posting some pictures later and I'll use this thread for some questions and observations I might have.
Yesterday I started the clutch job. I think I am making some pretty good progress. I droped the Y-pipe without any problems (yeah anti-sieze!). And the subframe bolts came out really easy (in my opinion a litte too easy, I dont think they were tight enough). The steering rack to subrame bolts were the hardest to remove, but a little help from PB Blaster solved that....I love California
Dropping the subframe was a real PITA but my younger brother and I were able to wrestle it to the ground using 1 floor jack, a 5 gallon bucket and a few blocks of 4x4.
My engine support seems to be working although it continually scares the **** out of me. The crossbeam 4x4 is bowing a slight bit and the entire assembly makes way too much noise and creaks for me. I almost always have a floor jack and a block of wood to help support the engine.
When I removed the trans mount dampener and lowered the tranny side of the engine I noticed that the EGR was hitting the brake fluid resevoir. I removed the EGR so it would not destroy anything.
The transmission was a PAIN to remove. The very top tranny to block bolts are hard to get to. The trans. isnt that heavy, just extremly akward.
Looks like my TOB is pretty screwed, it was very gummed up and could not slide very well. The inside of the clutch housing is very dirty, greasy, and black. Crap is seriously piled up almost 1/4" thick around all the walls. The PP fingers are worn but intact.
I did notice something about the transmission: when in neutral, and i turn the input shaft, the shafts where the axles would go (output shafts?) spin also. Why would this be, is it just static friction? All the other gears seem to work like i expected.
That is as far as I got yesterday, I will try and post some pics tonight when I get home from work.
