ok, tonite, i finally got a chance to look into my 1/2" free pedal play at the top of its range. after i determined the adjuster was working, i found the spring had lost a little tension. while under the dash, i pulled up on the clutch pedal to engage the adjust mechanism. with my other hand (actually using my thumb), i pushed up on the back of the blue plastic adjuster. this gave me one more notch on the rachet, and that was all it needed.

here is what i failed to mention in my original post: for the clutch to engage while in gear, my pedal was in about the middle of its range. meaning to get clutch action, i had to come about 4" off the floor. i knew this wasnt right, and the slack pedal told me it wasnt right.

the aftermath: i now have to relearn the clutch LOL. instead of coming up 4" to engage, i have to bring it up about 6", like its supposed to be.

thanks to Scott and Eric (i think thats who it was) for your help.

I had to do that same thing on my 92, I clicked up the petal to self adjust it and the clutch got horrible. My friend did what you described and now all is good!
