Hey,

Im in the middle of installing my Fidanza and Spec II Clutch. I have it all bolted up to the engine, but now im putting the quill sleeve and new TOB on. The quill sleeve is supposed to go on rather tuff. Well, mine just slides right on. There is definatly friction between the Quill sleeve and the shaft but i can push it on fairly easily with my own hands. Could the shaft be worn down from previous quill sleeve chatter? I dont want to install the tranny like this and have the damn quill sleeve come loose on me. Any help is appreciated!!

I've seen various quill sleeves going on differently, some easy some not. You might want to try depressing the locking tabs a little on the new quill sleeve. The little tabs near the base of it. And don't forget generous amounts of High Strength Sleeve Retainer on the inside of the new quill sleeve!!

I had the same problem when I installed the 9 puck fron SHO NUT. I was a little worried about how "loose" the TOB was on the new quill sleve. I e-mailed Josh, and he said it would be fine. He was right! IMHO you will be fine.:thumb:

Don't forget about the break in period for the new clutch. And I remember trying to find the sleeve retainer around here a while ago and was having a hard time finding it also. But I finally found like 2 places that had some. It's not something most stores have kicking around.

** While you have the car just sitting in the air, you might want to try to run the nitrous supply hose from the trunk to underhood. It'll give you something to do while you wait and help move along the install process.

Oh yeah, i know about the break in process, Spec recommends 450 miles, ill probably give it more than that. I plan on running the lines and installing my Oil PSI gauge while i have it all off. Impretty sure the Oil PSI sending unit is in the back of the block right above the oil pan. Can i just splice a wire into that or do i have to get a mechanical sending unit?

Next question about the nitrous install, where is the wire for throttle position?

Thanks

I would just wire it right to the TPS, unless you like hunting wires :nut:

Also, for an Oil PSI gauge, it is best to use a T-fitting, so you can have both the aftermarket gauge and the idiot lamp sending unit operational.

I havent looked but i imagine that theTPS must be on/by the throttle body.

Now, on the back of the block there is a sensor in the block w/ 1 wire coming out of it. I should jsut be able to tap a wire in to that i would imagine..?

And By the way, I got my trans in and everything going, the SHO is back on the road now. I really like the AL. SFB. By far the best mod to my sho yet besides the 3.2 swap.

Just wanted to thank everybody for your help. This was one **** of a learning experience that im glad to say is finished

:salute:

Yes, the TPS is right on the throttle body. Its the black sensor attached to the front of the t-body. 3-wire harness IIRC.

As for your oil press. gauge... the factory low PSI sending unit is installed on the back of the motor, near the bellhousing. It is a single wire. But I want to make sure you are not referring to the low oil sensor. This is also a single wire unit, but is located on the rear of the oil pan, near the oil drain plug.

No, you cannot simply tap into the low oil PSI wire. That is only an ON-OFF idiot lamp sending unit for low PSI. It will not work with a real gauge. You MUST install the proper sending unit with the gauge. This involves (as I mentioned before) installing a T-fitting to allow both the fatory idiot lamp sending unit and the aftermarket gauge sending unit to be used.

I have a phot hosted somewhere that clearly shows what needs to be done.... Ill try to find it.

here we go....

TPS:

And oil pressure gauge sending unit setup:

The settup is standard brass plumbing fittings. one short ****** and a T-fitting.

The stock sending unit installs into one side of the T, and the aftermarket gauge sending unit installs into the other. :thumb:

I dont have the pics of my clutch R&R uploaded to my computer yet. The quill sleeve is the sleeve that you put on your input shaft coming out of the trans that the Throw Out Bearing slides on. Make sense?

Isn't that fork lever?

The fork lever is whats connected to the clutch cable and the fork lever pushes and releases the TOB which rides on the quill sleeve...
