I feel like a total tool discribing this, but here goes....
whenever i depress the clutch when the car is on, it makes kind of a light grinding sound, like somthing is brushing against it. while im moving, it goes ZIIIIiiing! (yeah, i know.) starting kind of high-pitched, moving to a lower-pitch as the rpm decreases.
any ideas? shrug

Sounds like your TOB (throw out bearing) is shot causing damage to your pressure plate fingers. I'd suggest getting it checked out quickly because once the fingers start to break you car could become undriveable quickly. I'm no expert...but been there...done that. Sorry. frown

Yup problably TOB. How many miles on the car?
If the TOB is the cause, you are probalby going to need a new Pressure Plate also, inotherwords a new clutch. Sho Nut Performance sells the ford OEM (9.75") clutch kit for $219.

good luck

If you have to drop the tranny, it's best to replace the works...pressure plate, disc, resurface the flywheel, replace the TOB and all wear items. There is a package from SHO Nut that includes all these items. Also, the rear main seal...no need in doing half a job and since this will be the only time the seal will be exposed for changing. Better safe than sorry IMO.

TO Bearing?

You said only when it's running right?
Does it happen in all gears? Including Nuetral?
yeah, its a pain in the **** to get it into any gear, damn near impossible to get it into reverse... also, its kind of a scratching sound, not a zing. The sound goes away when its in neutral. but it comes back when i push the clutch.

That would be your throw out bearing (TOB) and pressure plate. Eventually the car will become impossible to shift. For the time being, stay off the clutch as much as possible if you absolutely must drive it. If you can park it, then park it until you get parts. I went a whole month with it in fairly bad shape, I learned to shift without the clutch, but I had no choice. I don't think it has much time left from the sound of it.

How often should these fail? I had my entire trans replaced 15,000 miles ago. Could I change the TOB myself?
