The '94 has not been working as well as it should lately, and I've suspected some play in the clutch cable for a while. It must have gotten worse, so we ordered a new cable. Basically, the pedal can be pulled up as there is slack it it!

What I need to know is how does one check the quadrant to make sure the automatic adjustment functions? Once I put in the new cable, should it just tension automatically and as long as the pedal feels good, it is working?

I tried searching but came up without much discussion of the adjuster itself. For that matter, are parts available if it does have a problem?

May try and tackle the cable replacement today since the weather is a bit nicer. It doesn't look too bad anyway. Out of curiosity, where can the replacement be obtained? Is it a Ford only item?

I haven't ever seen it listed anywhere.

Well, after much stress over the stupid protector cover, I finally got the new cable in. The car shifts WAY more smoothly. It generally feels better too. The quadrant seems to have a bit of spring force, so I'm gathering it is OK? The teeth looked fine as well, just a bit paranoid since this car has already had two clutches since we got it.

I don't want to have to put in ANOTHER any time soon. Hopefully if the cable was a bit stretched, it should be good now.
