My mechanic told me that my rear bearing and cable also need to be replaced with my clutch and flywheel.

1) Is it typical for these to also need replacement when you grenade your clutch.

2) Is the cable what we commonly call the cable shifter? If that is the case, I might as well try to find a rod shifter.

I'm confused because SHOnut doesn't seem to have either listed on his clutch page.

Does this sound right?

I don't think you can get a new clutch cable from Ford anymore, I think they went obsolete. I could be wrong though.

Typically you don't need to replace the cable, unless it's damaged (stretched/broken) etc.

The SHO doesn't have a pilot bearing, so nothing to mess with there.

How exactly did your clutch "grenade" and what else was damaged?

I posted it on a earlier topic. It drove fine but then all of a sudden when shifting into third it just shuttered ahd wouldn't go in. Then I had a hard time jamming it into first. Even while stoped at lights, it wouldn't desingage corectly, and would hop around if the clutch was pressed in. I've already ordered SHOnuts clutch kit, with the upgraded TOB, and will order a Fidenza soon.

Perhaps grenading wasn't the best choice of words but either way it is badly broke.

I should also add that he gave me a qoute price for both parts from Ford. 171.98 cdn for the cable, and 59.42 cdn for the bearing. I brought it to a small dealership that is very recommended by a couple SHO owners, and they have worked on SHO clutches in the past.

He kust have been referring to the throwout or release bearing that is priced at $31 from SHO NUT. As Mark said, there is no pilot bearing on the SHO.

The clutch cable connects the clutch pedal to the release lever on the top of the transmission and rarely fails. You can watch the motion of the release lever as someone else presses the clutch pedal to verify that the cable is intact. The release lever is visible on the near side of the top of the transaxle case in the photo below.

This lever is what translates the linear motion of the cable into the sliding motion of the throwout bearing viewable in the second image. The vertical shaft on the right in the lower photo is the pivot of the release lever. A new clutch disk, pressure plate and throwout bearing (SHO NUT's clutch kit with wear parts) will take care of most of the SHO's clutch needs.

I had to drive about 20km to get to the mechanic. I had to go between first and neutral a half dozen times, is it possible I could of damaged the cable then? It was very difficult to go to first from neutral, and sometimes the only way to do so was to restart the car.

I did get SHOnut's kit that includes wear parts.

Thanks for the help guys

The only real way to damage the clutch cable is to bend it into a small radius during the clutch service. You should be well served with a new clutch disk, pressure plate and throwout bearing.
