Hey guys I need some help. I have a 1992 MTX with 108k and I think my clutch is almost gone.

I have rough gear shift, high clutch engagement, and clutch chatter while at idle. I was curious how hard it is to do the clutch myself. Assuming I got the clutch video and clutch kit from shonut. What would I expect to pay to do it myself compared to a garage. I live near Portland, Oregon just for reference. If anyone knows a garage around the northwest with good service and prices.

Also I have a strange noise coming from the accessory side of the engine. My question is in reference to the timing belt tensioner. When I installed my timing belt 200 miles ago, I manually pushed the tensioner against the belt and tightened the bolt because I tried to just let the spring do its job, but when I started the engine, the timing belt was slapping because it was so loose.

Would tighting the tensioner manually cause any problems.

I can't tell exactly where its coming from. It could be an idler pully but i don't know. The sound is like a constant squeaking. The water pump is new. The noise is just slight. You can barely hear it from inside the car without the radio or the climate control on.

Thanks

Sounds like you're in for the works on your clutch job. If you've never done one before I highly suggest you get the clutch vid from Josh. I have never done it myself, but watched closely when Mark Nunnally did mine and it doesn't seem to be that hard. The hardest part is removing everything...ie: the ypipe, the starter, the subframe, etc. Rusted bolts are no fun let me tell ya.

If you're daring, I'd say go for it. If you want to pay someone to do it, I wouldn't pay over $300 labor plus the cost of your parts.
