Clutch advice

Will be putting a Spec stage 2 and Fidanza flywheel in in the next week or 2. Just thought maybe some of you might have some advice.

1. get a new clutch cable

2. resurface your flywheel

3. Loctite the pressure plate bolts

4. replace rear main seal (not alot of $$)

5. I did rod bearings... theyre really easy with the axels out, since the oilpan gets hung up on the axel

6. make sure your clutch fork and bushings are in good condition

Not sure you really need to do 1 and 2 above, but it wouldn't/couldn't hurt. However all others are good advice. #3 especially. Also, just make sure you break it in properly.

i think #2 is a must why would you want a nice new clutch trying to grab on an old glazed over flywheel

Is the Fidanza new or used? If its new you dont have to worry about resurfacing it.

Replace subframe bushings if you havent yet.
Check out the intermediate shaft for bearing separation.
Soak Subframe bolts/exhaust manifold studs in pBlaster the night before.

Rod bearings are easiest with tranny off.
Check out motor mounts

exactly!

plus a clutch cable is only like $20, if he still has that 15 year old original cable in it... its probably time for a replacement and its easiest to do with the tranny out...

Hey thanks for the advice. The fidanza is brand new so the flywheel is taken care of. I don't really want to do rod bearings since there are 74,000 miles on the car. Will do on the loctite. You guys are scaring me with this clutch cable talk though. That's all I thought was wrong at first because of the sudden the clutch just doesn't disenguage all the way. It wasn't slipping or anything before that. I talked to some people though and it doesn't seam like that's a common problem. By the way I work at a Ford dealer in Oshkosh and my price was like $125 for a cable. Now I think the pressure plate is probably broken or something. Since I ordered all the parts I'm going to put them in anyway now. Hey Dave what do you advise me to do to break it in?

but i havent replaced my clutch cable yet... and i think its kinda the culprit of difficult release/ shifting problems theres ALOT of chatter coming... and sometimes its worse than chatter... more like SHAKE!!

well if it doesnt disengage that happened to my car if its the stock clutch the straps break alot... you will not notice wear like slippage at all cuz the strap just breaks in to.... i had no signs of the clutch going untill it broke either. else good advice all around here but hey take the advice with rod bearings... if ya need help im sure someone on here would love to help ya out were all friendly people even with 74k it would be a good thing just to save the problems of a new motor later on

how much of a PITA is it to change a clutch cable..

Not too bad. Just remove the intake and disconnect it from the fork thing then the pedal.
