I just purchased a stock 95' SHO with about 51,000 miles, its bone stock.

The problem that I am having is that the clutch doesn't seem to disengage completely when depressed to the floor, which intern makes it difficult (or stiff) to shift into first and causes grinding when going into reverse.

My question is wheather or not the clutch is bad or if there is an adjustment to be made?

Any advice would be helpful.

Welcome to the forum! :D Be sure to check out www.shotimes.com for a LOT of excellent SHO maintenance, modification, and specs info! And dont be intimidated my that [SEARCH] feature of the SHOforum thumbs_u

On to your question...

Unless is was babied by the previous owner for every 51k, you are probably due for a clutch, throw-out bearing, and pressure plate.

There is no adjustment for the SHO clutch... it is "self adjusting"

Other options that would result in your non-dissengaging clutch include:

1. self adjusting clutch is NOT self adjusting (creating slack in the cable)
2. stretched cable (not very likely)

The reverse grinding is a SHO thing. Go to www.shotimes.com and it's listed as well with other info you'll need. To go ahead and say, just put it in 3rd or 5th gear since your 1st is hard to engage then put into reverse while still having the clutch depressed and it should solve that problem and if not, leave it in 3rd or 5th for a few seconds then proceed. If you choose to go with 5th gear, remember to back out and go left of nuetral so it will unlock the locking deal to prevent a 5-4 downshift accidently going to reverse. Looks like you found a low milage and decent SHO, could it also be the moonlight blue color?

Prophet, is that a pic of you in your avatar? Been wanting to ask for awile. :D

The reverse grinding is not just a SHO thing. Lots of cars have unsynchronized reverse gears. My old 90 and 91 Camry's for instance didn't have syncros on reverse.

And I'll answer your question. Yeah, that's Prophet in the avatar pic. He looks tough don't he?
