Climate Control problems

Ok so i'm driving down the road, and when I reach about 30 mph, the whole climate control turns off. The lights for at night still remain on, but the unit itself is turned off. My dad and I pulled the whole front dash apart to look for loose connections, but there were none. Also, when the car isnt moving, it works fine. Its just when you start to move little over 30 or so it just dies and it'll come back on when you come to a stop or slow down. I have no idea why. Before we took apart the dash, the anti-lock brake light and the airbag light came on right after the unit went out. We dont know whats wrong nor could we find any loose connections. Anyone know whats going on? Thanks.

We need some more info,,like what year? Tranny? And just for the **** of it, what color?

Its a 92 MTX with 142k miles on it. Electronic Climate control with the rear defrogger. No mods that I can think of, except the exhaust. Color is white

Hey, the same thing happened to me just before my alternator went out!! Both times but i would recommend the simple test, if its happening at least get the car home and while its running pull the battery cable off and if it stops running, voila! its your alternator. Unfortunately then this means going and buying a new one

When we were driving down a dirt road, the climate control kept turning on and off, we were going about 20. After we got off the road, we started going faster and when we reached about 55-60 mph, it still stayed on. Its quite random. Sometimes the anti-lock light comes on, sometimes it doesnt. Sometimes the air-bag light flashes, sometimes it doesnt. Also, whenever we put on the break or put the car into reverse, the radio kinda flashes, for a very brief instant. We have no idea whats going on. Any ideas? Thanks

you've got some power issues. Check connections at the battery, alternator, up to the fuse box under the hood. Sounds like corosion or a bad wire. Pay special attention to the alternator, I've heard of the large gauge wire going bad @ the alternator. Good luck.

Just to note, when the climate control goes out, the lights still come on when I turn on the headlights. Fog lights just stopped working too.

it was a number of problems, but let me go in order. We solved the climate control problems by replacing an alternator that was giving out too much power(pretty weird), so we got a rebuilt one. Once in a while, we still have problems due to a bad battery connection caused by cheap connectors. Sometimes the car just wont start due to the connections. I hope this helps.

I have had a number of electrical problems due to neglect from the previous owner. The motor mounts and SFB were shot letting the engine move a bunch and pulling apart the main connection to the alternator and a connection at the solenoid. I would check ALL main connections from the battery, alternator, starter, and solenoid (some years don't have a seperate soleniod) for damage and corrosion. I would even go so far as to unhook each connection and check the condition of the terminals, even more so if you live in salty conditions.

Also, if you do have to repair a connection, crimp AND solder the connection. This will give a much stronger mechanical and electrical connection that will have very little chance to ever fail.

yes, we also had our engine mounts and our subframe mounts replaced when we got a new alternator, they were rotting away due to oil or something. I havent had any major problems, only the occasional bad electrical connection.
