It sounds almost like there is something loose around my rear driver side wheel well.

When I go over a bumpy area, I'll hear this thud (clanky sound) from that area. I wonder if it could be my strut or something? They aren't that old but if it needs to be replaced I want to do it ASAP and before I make any decision to sell it shortly.

Should I check something before assuming I need something new...like a loose bolt or something?

If you guys think I need new rear struts, please send recommendations and price range for parts and labor...I have good mechanical skills so if it's relatively easy to do I will perform the job myself.

Any help is appreciated...thanks! thumb

If you have good mechanical skills and a good spring compressor it should be a piece of cake to do the rear struts. But if it was me and I didn't have access to a hoist I would take it to a good shop and have them diagnois it for me since they can get it up in the air and see the whole picture. Then just take it home and do the job yourself. For a suspension check most shops do not charge for this since they just drive it and hang it. But if you ant me to guess at it I will.
sturt blown sounds like a rattle in the trunk.
a broken or worn out sway bar end link will make a sound lioke a bunch of pennys in your hand and shaking them up
worn bushings, broken bolts oh and a nail in the tire is another good one just goes click click click every time the tire is rotated

Get the picture yet??? A quick and easy diagnoisis by a good shop will tell you a lot

Mabye the sway bar end links if the struts are pretty new. If you want one new strut, spring, and strut tower installed it will set you back any where from $250-$300.

Okay, so if it's a blown strut do I need to replace the rear 2 or just that 1?

How much we looking for just that 1?

Thanks again!

Besides a new strut, what other parts do I need to replace while I'm there?

I would replace the spring if it's worn, and the strut tower if it's worn. I think the noise you are hearing is a combination of a bad strut and strut tower.
